I also have a problem raising my HDL. My doctor tells me this is a genetic issue (my parents both had low HDL numbers). I am not able to exercise as much as as I would like because of a bad left knee and right shoulder. But have been able to raise my HDL from 29 to 42 by taking fish oil. BTW my total cholesterol is 136 and I do take a statin (I had a heart attack in 1998).
      Hope that helps.

Wish I could help. My HDL is fine and I eat a lot of vegetables. Before going low-carb, I ate a lot of healthy grains, beans and fruit (which raised my sugar too much).

I was going to recommend Fish Oil. I also have a genetic component.
Red wine is supposed to be good also.

Fish oil raised mine to a wonderful level and it was low....so I for one believe it was fish oil that helped...I take one in the morning and one at night.

Thank you guys for all your sugestion. I will try fish oil, perhaps eating fish more frequently.

Fish oil, avocados, olive oil, (you will like this.....maybe) one alcoholic drink daily, cranberry juice (Ocean Spray makes a light), Exercise exercise exercise....... My HDL is 126 and I do all of the above. That being said, my LDL is also high at 156. But because of my freakishly high HDL and a perfect CRP test I do not take statins. My total cholesterol ratio is 2.3, well below the 4.0 range.
