| | | Ever CGMS? Hey fellow pumpers,
I just got hooked up to a CGMS and was wondering if there are any tips or precautions our group could share. I am trying to get my pump fine tuned so I can regain some lost control and varying numbers. Any info you can share would be great.
Thanks again
Vic L

If you want to restate your question as to what I got, I will be more than happy to answer.

| | | Just make sure that you Calibrate or else there is not much that the reports can do for you and the 3 day's would have been a waste.

| | | CGMS Continual Glucose Monitoring System. Also know as the Guardian. CGMS does not have a screen to view the numbers but the Guardian does. That is the only difference in the 2.
It is used for Doctors and Patients to get better control and is usually worn for 3 full days. It is similiar to a Pump (Wire, Injections etc.) The part that goes into your skin has a small sensor that takes a BG reading every 5 min, it is a way to see how your BG reacts between meals and night shifts with hormones. A great way to set up basal's on pumps as well as to discover the reasoning around low and high numbers.

I am eating like normal and not eating low carb meals. I want to see the real numbers. I don't want to be a perfect diabetic when using this device.

sorry, I guess I was a bit too stingy with my words. I'm wondering if it's the MiniMed and does the sensor irritate your tissues? |

Vic L | That is the best way to do it. You don't want to cheat the system or else it would have been for nothing. Good Luck

You'll have to point me in the right direction to read up on the Diabetes Documentary. Is it listed on this forum? I'm interested, it would be fun.
I'm a cubicle monkey too!

Yes, the CGMS I am using right now is made by Minimed. So far I haven't had issues but I am very conscious of the area. They made me sign like 4 forms just to drill into my head " If you break it, you'll pay". As far as irritation, can't say I had any yet but then again I just started last night.

Vic L | thanks! Even though you just started, it's a good sign I think, because when I tried a Sil set it hurt immediately and after 3 hours I jerked that darn thing out and went back to Quick Sets. Please keep us updated. |

| | Just an update
My time with the CGMS came and went and I really look forward to my appointment this Friday. I will have a review of the results at that time. The time I spent connected to it was un-eventful so there was no need to call Minimed for an error or any site irritation. I just hope the results will help me get my A1C down further. It was an 8 in January.

Vic L | Vic, please update us with any follow on info. I'm interested in trying the Guardian myself. I've been pumping for 5 1/2 years but am still stuggling with basal rates, insulin carb sensitivity, etc. Also, I'm interested in pursuing the MM 722 when it becomes available in the U.S. It's like a Gurardian that talks directly to the pump.
