| | | how often do you calibrate your one touch?
just looking for other opinions...i don't calibrate very often, as i feel it wastes a strip that cost me $$$ i don't have, but do one touch ultras lose their calibration easy? thanks so much! |

They can only be calibrated in the factory. The test solution is only to check to see if the vial of strips are giving resonable readings. You must make sure the code is set correctly on the meter matching the code on the vial. Changing the date or time for some reason will make the meter loose the code and the meters do run fast or slow and need to have the time adjusted sometimes. The test solution is only good for three months after opening it. |

| | | Doing what Harold said, I never test mine. I find it is a waste of a test strip and that control solution is only good for 3 months then it's pretty useless and then just buying more of it is another waste of money.

I've had my One Touch Ultra since January '05 and I have never done a test with the control solution. Everywhere I've seen, that stuff is about $10 for a small bottle !!!!
(Ok, if anyone is gonna beat the bad diabetic here, please be gentle. LOL. Like we used to tell my younger brother, I'm fragile. HEHEHE).

I do it rarely, but I must say that its one tough lil meter. I dropped it yesterday and it cracked (glass), dropped it again, and nothing happened. I got a new one today, just in case, but this lil meter is one tough cookie!

My feelings tell me if I'm high or low, the meter just confirms it or gives me a number that don't agree with my feelings , I ignore the meter !
