Hey Trish: Just getting over my summer cold...almost 3 weeks of coughing, sore throat and drainage...fun, fun, fun. I took antibiotics, but the coughing was killing me....So I decided to give the Nyquil Sore Throat and Cold medicine a try. Slept like a baby (hubby was pleased, as i'd kept him awake "barking" several nights). I did notice a slight rise in blood sugar, but wasn't sure if it was from the Nyquil or the infection. It was worth the small rise in BS for the ability to get some rest.

Also, make sure that you don't let it turn into bronchitis like I did....get on some antibiotics.

Feel better soon!
Linda

Linda is right, Trish. Don't let it get so far that it becomes bronchitis. I currently have bronchitis and a sinus infection both. I just finished a 5 day course of antibiotics but the coughing is killing me. I'm taking the cough syrup prescribed by my doc but that stuff is nasty.
Hope you feel better soon.

I haven't had a cold since diagnosis, but I asked my doctor when I do get a cold, what can I take. He said I could take any cold meds I want. Also, I use OTC sleeping pills and have had no problems with them.

I have also used NiQuil with little to no effect on my blood sugar. I ran high anyhow because of just being sick. Be aware that there are other reasons that you should not use OTC cold remedies. High blood pressure is one of them.

Sorry your sick. I hate colds

Hi Trish...sorry you aren't feeling well. I read that Nyquil liquid has 19 carbs. I can't seem to confirm that however. I saw one place that included cherry liquid in with lozenges count and I also saw some posts on a low carb site. They seemed to think that the gel caps had less carbs. Again...I was not able to prove any of this. I hope you can take it and get well soon!!!

Trish,

Careful with any Ephedrine -- that drug can be nasty. It's in lots of cold medicines. I overdosed on Diabetic Robitussin a few years ago, and ended up in the ER getting my heart stopped and restarted again -- Super Ventricular Tachycardia (SVT) Wow - what a feeling.

That was 8 years ago; now I very carefully take cold meds if absolutely necessary. For the last 2 1/2 yrs, I have been taking something for immune system support, which keeps me from getting colds & it also helps w/arthritis pain.
