Lipitor and altese

I just started to take these two medicines for my cholesterol and my kidneys, but I've been feeling very weak and for the past few days and I also have trouble sleeping. Did it happen to anyone else? And what kind of side effects did you have?

Yes dodo. I did not have a good experience with Lipitor. I have never taken altace. Lipitor gave me flu like symtoms with muscle aches, general malaise and a depression like feeling. I also gained about 12 pounds. I have stopped taking it and have not decided what to do about my high cholesterol yet. I need to decide soon. My family has a high incendence of blocked arteries, heart bypass and stroke. I don't recommend taking the route of discontinuing your medication like I did. Talk to your doctor asap and tell him/her your symtoms. I hated Lipitor. I won't ever take statins again.

Doido, I took Altace for many years without a problem. I then developed a dry cough. People on the forum told me it could be the Altace, so I asked my doctor. He had me change to Avapro and the cough stopped. But keep in mind it was many years before I had any problems.

Thanks for your replies!

Nancy, I hope you'll find a way to reduce your cholesterol. Do you like to exercice? It says that it helps, but in my case, it doesn't seem to (I exercice at least an hour a day!) Good luck!

Penny, I'm curious to know if you experienced any side effects with Avapro?

I forgot to add that since I'm taking these medicines I've stopped being hungry. Thinking about eating gives me nausea. Again, am I the only one?

So far no side effects I can attribute to the Avapro. If I thought Altace would keep me from being hungry, I would put up with the cough!

Yes dodo, I love exercise. I love to bike ride and kayak and we walk two and a half miles nightly. I love to rollerblade although I have had foot surgery, so right now I am sitting doing abosolutely nothing. I do walk with my husband nightly still, but my butt is on the seat of a bike and I push along with my good foot. LOL.

Lipitor made me very nauseaus.

I'm sorry to hear that you have to take 25 pills a day Ricky. Are they all related to diabetes?

Thanks for the link! Very useful!

I'm recovering from the flu so I don't know about the "weakness with fever or flu symptoms". I guess I need to wait a few days before finding out.

And I'm not very happy to learn that it might be dangerous if I'm pregnant (my husband and I have been trying for months...) Don't know if I'm going to stop taking it or if we're going to wait a little more!

"Avapro is not recommended if you want to have "kids"." That is no good news to me because I thought I would ask the doctor about switching for it!

Anyway, I think my husband and I are going to wait a little more so I could get my cholesterol under control and give time for my kidneys to get better!!!

I just spoke to a nurse at the Diabetes Clinic and, according to her, it's not in my best interest to take these medications. First, because I want to get pregnant. Second, I'm still young and I haven't been diagnosed with diabetes long enough. My numbers are higher than it suppose to be but not high enough to get medications for it. I could have make them right by myself!
So, I'm a little bit frustrated this morning!

Hi Dodo ,sorry to hear that you might have been taking medication for nothing.I don't know if you heard about the film of Paul Arcand in Canada about the surmedication we're getting. The doctors are fast on the prescription. So there,s a good thing about it if you can stop your medication and get your numbers wright by diet and exercise .You can go on with your project of having childrenssss.Hope ,you won't be mad for long it's not good for the pressure. Bye Ricky
