| My still being explored relationship between Avandia and green tea:
I am a long time tea drinker. I like almost all kinds of tea. But for sometime I had been drinking a whole lot of jasmine green tea. I started my heavy green tea drinking pretty much the same time I started Avandia. When I shortly noticed fluid accumulating in my lower legs (oddly not in my feet, just the legs), I figured it was due to the Avandia, as that was listed as one of the side effects. I can tell you the small amount of edema concerns me, but to a doctor who sees really extreme edema cases, my tiny bit was nothing.
Well, a few times I noticed that when I skipped my green tea for a few days, the swelling went away. So I played around with it, trying to see if it was mere coincidence , or cause and effect between the green tea and the swelling. Of course even if there is a cause & effect relationship, it could be from the jasmine, rather than from the tea. This summer, I gave up my green tea completely to see what would happen. I had a whole lot of days with no detectable swelling, and a few with a little swelling, but no days with the kind of swelling I previously had.
However, I'd like to go back to my green tea, jasmine and all. Currently, I do have what feels like quite a bit a swelling. It feels grotesque to me. But I don't think a person casually looking at my legs could even tell it was there. I've got the swelling again and I'm not drinking green tea. Yet, I realize I have been eating a LOT of really salty stuff---pickles and olives. A LOT. So was it the green tea contributing to swelling previously, or was it only the pickles and olives that I've always eaten too much of?
I don't know the answer. I'm not sure my jasmine green tea actually causes the swelling.....But could it be that green tea has the same action and same side effect as Avandia, perhaps due to containing the same active molecule? Who knows. Guess I'll follow your link and see what it says.
BTW, I did not notice a change in BG control when I stopped green tea. I am still on Avandia as well. |
