Question Neurontin

I've got a friend at work who has been diabetic for over 30 years. She just recently started to show signs of neuropathy in her legs. Her doctor has prescribed Neurontin. She says it makes her feel "weird" when she takes it. Should she discuss other meds for this with her doctor? If so, what other meds?
Thanks.

I was on neurontin for neuropathy and it did nothing. No pain relief, no sleepiness, no weird feelings. nada. My doctor put me on elavil instead and it makes me sleepy, very sleepy so i only take it at night when I need it but it does help with the pain. Omega 3 and vit b 6 may also help.

Thanks Parrot. I'll mention the Omega 3 and b 6 to her. Also the Elavil.

If she feels weird she should definately tell her doctor. I know two people who had really odd adverse reactions to that stuff.

I have been taking neurontin for years. To begin with I had some pretty weird side effects. Sleepiness was the biggest side effect. I tried to change to Lyrica a few months ago and the side effects were so severe I stopped the second day. I was very dizzy and disoriented. I was told they would subside over time, but I couldn't do it. It was too weird for me.

If the side effects are tolerable, she may overcome them in a week or so. If it is more than she can tolerate, she should try some of the others available.

I used it but it didn't help me. I don't recall any negative side effects though. I've been using 300 mg of Carbatrol for a while. I can't say it cured it but it does seem to help some and I've had no problems with it, either.
