| | | Bayer 81 mg aspirin with Cholesterol Reducers Anybody have any good results with this new product? I bought some the other day (no coupon-$5.29 for 30 at Wal-Mart) and read the fine print saying that people using 2 of these tablets (it would cost $9.98 for a 60 tablet package) can reduce their cholesterol. I know people who used more than 81 mg of aspirin a day and had their blood too thin, and i'm really scared to do so.
Along with my meds, I have bought about a few months ago the Equate brand of Centrum. As soon as it runs out, I'm getting the heart advantage Centrum and taking it along with the Bayer that i'm taking now and I wonder if it'll have the same effects.
My question is that I was wondering if anybody else has used it and if it lowered their cholesterol level any? If so, it'll be worth my $5 a month on this.

I'm also interested in any who have taken it and what their results have been.

It reduces the adhesiveness of blood platelets, so if there is a plague rupture, the risk of a heart attack causing blokage is reduced.
The only way to know if it is working is to measure the platelet aggregation before and after the start of treatment. And taking aspirin doesn't work for everybody. Studies have found that, the higher your cholesterol is to start with, the less likely it is that taking aspirin will protect you. Here is a reference Aspirin and Cholesterol.

But the effect is not likely to be major, certainly not at only a 400mg dosage. In a study involving a 3,000mg increase in dietary phytosterol intake, there was a 5% reduction in total cholesterol, and a 6% reduction in LDL cholesterol. So don't be taken in by the marketing hype.

| | | I know that aspirin by itself doesn't reduce cholesterol...that's what drugs like crestor and lipitor are for....along with a sensible diet and exercise. Anyways, I got to take lab tests and i'm really serious about getting on a health diet and use an exercise bike within the next 3 months so I can not only change my eating habits but my overall health. The doc might have to switch me from my current cholesterol drug (Gemfibrozil), in which I know that there are coupons for 30 day samples of Lipitor out there. Then after, i'll consider getting patient assistance on Caduet since I use Norvasc anyways.
Anyways, I notice that since I got a new bp machine a couple of days ago, the Norvasc has really worked so far...but still, I got to test it vs. the doctor's machine to know if it really works. I like my new machine that I use it 3-4x a day to get results throughout the day. I would like to get my lab results and see if there is improvement in 3 months so I can get healthier and not worry about my health.
