Cold medicine

Hi all...

Well, one of my students has given me a cold. His or her grade will now drop!

I went to Walgreens last night to find something to take, and the pharmacist told me to treat it with Tylenol and vitamin C. I'm worse this morning, with a sore throat, slight cough, and congestion.

Any idea what I can take to help relieve my symptoms? I go to the doctor tomorrow for a checkup, but I'd like to have some relief today.

Thanks...
Lori

Lori --

When I was first diagnosed, I asked my doctor what I could take when I got a cold and he said I could take whatever I used to take.

It had been years since I got a cold, but I got one a couple weeks ago. What worked best for me was TheraFlu (got the generic version) Night Formula or Day Formula depending and Dristan Nasal Spray when my head was really stuffy.

Feel better soon,
Jill

we had a discussion like this in chat the other night...would recommend increased testing overall, especially if taking OTC meds.."some one" (who shall remain nameless) took nyquil and then started dropping quickly...much like an alcoholic beverage..however, we have yet to hear the ending to that story...

Lori, when I'm battling a cold, I take a generic form of Mucinex. Really wonderful for chest congestion problems.

I know this is late but I swear by taking Coldcalm by Boiron, Zinc Capsules, and a megadose of vitamin C at the first sign of a cold. I have a week immune system and this is what my Geneticist recommended to me; I still catch everything but the duration is much shorter.

I hope y'all don't mind me dredging up an old thread. I have a nasty cold which I've been treating with a combination of Phenylephrine (Sudafed P.E.), Zicam nasal swabs, and nasal irrigation. I've noticed the past two days I've been inexplicably lower than normal and have had several unexplainable hypos. I've been eating higher carb just to keep my BS up. Is it because of the cold medicine or the cold? When the cold first started I was running high and now I'm running low. I can't seem to win.

Hi Lori,

I'm with Jill. Contact Night & Day or the generic version got me through many years of teaching. Every fall, every spring, they bring you a new surprise virus. Bless their little hearts.

Hope you're feeling well soon,

Mich

I know it sounds odd but before you go to bed smear liberal amounts of Vics on your feet then put your socks back on , works a treat .

Contact Night & Day? I've never heard of that. If it gets really bad I use Dayquil/Nyquil but they tend to make me loopy.
