those of you who knw me...medication bummer

I had to go back on seroquel. and atypical antiphychotic that is known to raise blood sugar. same family as zyprexa -how i got diabetes in the first place.

I couldn't keep up with the mood swings anymore. I jusr wore down.....

I have to monitor and just see what happens. we all know all I have done to keep bs low.

and this is a huge blow to the fight and my ego.

I am really not happy.

we shall see......

but I did sleep alllll night after taking it. that hasn't happened for a long time.

Aw, Kelli...

I know you must be frustrated, but you are such a strong person. Even the strongest of us sometimes need a little help. At least you had the sense to accept the help, and not repress your feelings, which you know would have only made things worse.

I agree with Granny... I bet this won't look nearly so bleak once you've gotten a few night's worth of good sleep.

Kelli, my Kim takes that drug. Sometimes I am really grateful for it, it does level her out, but she sleeps so much when she takes it. I hope it puts you where you want to be and doesn't cause any more Diabetic problems. You have extra stress right now, you just need a little extra help to deal with it.

I hope it helps and does not mess up your blood sugar, that is all.

You are a strong, STRONG person and if you need it, you need it. That does not make you a failure in any sense.

Maybe you can fiddle with the dose a bit, too.

Kelli, I am really glad you are back on it. You seemed to be moody at times, these past few weeks. By my measure, it is best to first get your mood swings under control, then do what needs to be done for the D. Perhaps it's a good idea to look at insulin - I don't think you take it.

Be positive and enjoy some needed sleep.

I am glad to hear that you are able to sleep. That is so important. If you have probs with your BG you are so much better equipped to deal with them now, so keep an eye on that and I am sure you will handle it. Maybe you won't have those probs this time anyway.

Hang in there and I wish you another good night tonight.

CBT - What conscious action did you take that caused failure? Answer: None. As you say, logic says you are not a failure. So why do you feel as if you are? Failed expectations? Change your expectations. Treat the B, then the D. Healthy mind, healthy body.

Seroquel has more than one lawyers-looking-for-clients websites, yannah; there is currently a class-action lawsuit against AstraZeneca pending in Orlando, Florida. And just last week, the PharmaGossip blog (among other news sources) reported that:
Quote:
An AstraZeneca saleswoman told a U.S. doctor the antipsychotic Seroquel didn’t cause diabetes almost four years after the company warned Japanese physicians about the drug’s links to the disease, internal documents show.

Nancy White, the saleswoman, and a colleague met in July 2006 with an unidentified doctor who reported “getting a lot of flak” from patients about Seroquel’s diabetes links, according to a note unsealed as part of a lawsuit. AstraZeneca wrote in November 2002 to Japanese doctors that it received a dozen reports of diabetes-related cases tied to Seroquel “where causality with the drug could not be ruled out.”

White said in the 2006 note that she told the physician that “there has been no causative effect” found between Seroquel and diabetes. The doctor “said he would not quit writing” prescriptions for Seroquel “due to this at this time,” White reported.

More than 15,000 patients have sued London-based AstraZeneca, claiming the company withheld information about links between diabetes and Seroquel. Many of the suits also claim AstraZeneca promoted Seroquel, approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, for unapproved uses.

A federal judge in Orlando, Florida, ordered AstraZeneca to unseal the sales-call notes by Sept. 11 after Bloomberg News filed a motion to gain access to company files turned over in Seroquel litigation. The judge allowed AstraZeneca to withhold physicians’ names on privacy grounds.

All federal-court cases over Seroquel, a so-called atypical or second-generation anti-psychotic medicine, have been consolidated in Orlando for pre-trial proceedings.
Have you checked into the possibility of seeking compensation from AstraZeneca?

And, having had friends/colleagues/family members with bipolar disorder, I agree that if you need the meds, you need the meds.

I got diabetes from zyprexa, about the same time the class actions were settled. Seroquel lawsuits came a little later.
but I hadn't ever taken seroquel.

plus my 3 year statute of limitation had run out.
cuz I really wanted to sue my dr cuz he had not even come close to doing the proper monitoring. I thought he was. I found out after my d diagnosis that the labs he ran every three months, he only did bs 2 x!! ever. and both were out of range. and he never ran lipids. thats why i get copies of all my labs now. but a lwayer looked at my case and said from the day I started zyprexa to the day of my d dianosis, it had been 3 years and 2 months, nothing I could do. which sucks cuz I didn't even know I had D till it was too late.

anyway, I feel better taking seroquel, but bs is raising already.
I saw 168 today after 4 days on this ****. I havent seen that in over a year.

I am not taking this ****.

I am very glad to hear that you are feeling better taking seroquel. Sounds like you need it so you best take it, no matter what it does to you blood sugar. Healthy mind.

Then you can address the blood sugar problems. Who knows, you may need to start insulin. Go see your GP about it. Healthy body.

I'm rooting for you.

Why are you pissed off? You started the day so well. What happened?

well you know, the 168 kinda pissed me off.

its 3 am, I didn't take the seroquel. so I am a wake again.

so DGF is going with me to the docotrs. in her opinion, she hates the seroquel. she says I am chemically restrained. she likes the crappy mood **** better. so she is going to explain that I need to sleep, and not be a zombie with high blood sugar.

her theory is sleep would make some of this go away.

I am not so sure about her whole assessment of the situation.

to some extent this is true. sleep is essentail with bipolar disorder.

but my daughter is here and the timing of all this **** also pisses me off.

so I need to be okay, like last week.

it is not cool that I have two pre exsisting conditions that contribute o each in so many bad ways. and what saves one, shoots the other in the foot.

and it makes me mad that I am laying in bed thinking do I want kidneys or sanity? puts me in a bad mood.
