Smile A1C test result in - Thank you all

My 6.1 A1C test in November scared the **** out of me and led me to all of you. I've followed the advice and just received the results of my 2nd test from BIOSAFE. I hope it's correct as it came back 4.9! I have tears in my eyes as I type this. I'm due for another test at my doctor's office in a month or so. If it's similar, I'll tell you all. It's hard to believe that the changes over the last 6 months could have been so dramatic, but I won't go back to little exercise and mounds of pasta. The exercise alone has helped my mind and soul as much as my body. Thank you all.

That's wonderful!! I could pretty much say the same thing verbatim regarding your Nov A1C of 6.1 I just had one on April 5th and it was 5.8 (normal range but HIGH normal) and it too scared me into action. I've lost 15 lbs and exercise 20-60 minutes almost every day (mostly brisk walking ). Today I worked but I am not exercising. I HOPE and PRAY that my next A1c (Nov) will be 5.5 or lower!) We'll see. Again, so happy to hear that it was that low after your change.

One question, At 6.1 were you diagnosed as a diabetic?? Here my doctor's lab says 6+ and you are classified as a diabetic. So with your normal of 4.9 are you no longer a diabetic? , remission? (I'm still confused as to why PRE-D's can "reverse" their condition by normalizing their numbers but once you are a diabetic EVEN IF you reverse you numbers to normal levels the medical profession still says you have diabetes? I don't understand that.

What kind of changes have you made? I've had diabetes for 10yrs now but I feel like a noob since I'm trying to start all over again so I can be in control! If only I had a rewind button...

Hi Jakes!

Way-to-go! It would seem that your taking the warning seriously has made a positive impact. Of course, as you already seem to know, the gains you have made can be lost rapidly. You have a new life-style, as well as a new lease on life. Keep up the good work.

Now it is your turn to encourage others.

FWIW: I've used the Biosafe test kits on the same day as lab tests and found them to be exactly the same as the lab tests.

Thanks again. To: Felinefan67 You asked if I was diagnosed as diabetic and would I still be considered diabetic. My answer is that I don't know. My doctor used diabetic and pre or borderline and let me know that the diagnosis is debatable. I don't care. I just know that I was on the road to diabetes and that I must do my best to put it off as long as possible. And...
To: n100Paul - You asked What kind of change? I took the advice from this site to test and see what foods I reacted to. I did - a lot. Also, I've lost 24 lbs. I'm at a healthy weight. I can do no more than about 25 "good" carbs per meal - I figured that out from testing. Not many carbs - but I'm a 58 yr. old female and not that big. I walk for over an hour each night after dinner - the first half uphill. That walk makes a big difference. I know - I've checked with and without the walk. And I'm getting more sleep. My last comment is that I'm enjoying the changes and that's important. Good luck to all of you.

I just had my first A1c and it was 5.8 which is a non diabetic score. The new ratings are anything under 7 is good and 4.8-5.9 is a healthy adult. Anything above 7 is diabetic. These ratings just changed on May 19, 2008 according to Labcorp.

The medical profession sometimes says anyone that is a bit overweight has to have diabetes even though we know that is not true.

This is were people become confused. Lowering carbohydrate levels to very low levels in order to achieve a lower (normal) HbA1c reading is not a sign of reversal, remission or cure. It's merely a sign that a pre-diabetic is keeping BG levels under control.

A normal person can eat plenty of carbs and still show normal.
