Insulin Resistant and Fatigue

Hello,

I am a 28 years old male. 5'6 and weigh 150lbs...

I went to the doc due to extreme fatigue.... it turns out from my tests that I am insulin resistant..

Although I am not overweight, except I do have a bit of extra fat around my belly... and I have been leading a bit of a sedentary lifestyle for the past few years as I had dislocated my kneecap playing basketball and kind of shunned away from sports/physical activity at that point..

From what I understand is that because of insulin resistance i do not get enough glucose to my cells for energy....

So when I am feeling extremely fatigued, what could I do? Should I just stay away from sugar/carbs completely?

I just would like to have a bit of energy so I can become active again and hopefully it can help with the insulin resistance...

any comments would be appreciated..

thanks!

Mike:

Welcome to DF. It is a wonderful place to ask questions and get support. Plus, if this is all new to you, get a better understanding of what is going on with your body.

Have you been d'xd (by a Doc.) with diabetes? Are you currently on any meds and do you test your blood? I am a little confussed by your post.

Once again: welcome to our litle forum.

Russell

I have not been officially diagnosed with diabetes, just insulin resistance after doing a fasting glucose test. Although he wants me to be tested again in two months, as the number suggested that I may already have diabetes..

I am on no meds and do not test my blood...

I have quite a few symptoms such as high liver enzymes (even though i do not drink)/high cholesterol/fatty liver

My doc believes i may have a food intolerance which may be why I have a fatty liver and causing my insulin resistance (which causes my fatigue) as I have no family history of it and am not over weight....

So i have been off wheat/gluten and am trying to add exercise, however the low energy is making it a bit difficult...

I am very new to this so I may have missed things, let me know if you can comment...

thanks!

Hello mike and welcome to DF! I'd recommend a referral to an Endocrinologist. Get the DX proper and accurate.

Hi, Mike. Did he tell you what the results of the fasting test were?

As for what to do about carbs/sugar, you need to be testing your blood. Get a blood glucose meter & test after everything you eat (2 hours after the first bite.) That will tell you how many carbs your body can handle - if the reading is over 140, eat less of that particular food the next time or do away with eating it at all. And, unfortunately, this isn't just when you're feeling fatigued bad...by the time you're feeling bad you're probably already doing damage.
