If I eat something...

and my postprandial numbers are 150-180...does it mean I shouldn't eat it anymore? Or is that normal?

How long post-prandial is it? If it's 2 hrs after the first bite, you should try different portion sizes and if still that high, it would be something i'd limit.

What did you eat? Different proportions of fat, carbs and protein can also have an effect on what food does -- and when it does it -- to your BG levels.

I'll have to wait. Is that the important one? 2 hours after?

I'm so confused as to what normal readings are after eating (right after), 1 hour, and 2 hour.

Pure sugar! Once in awhile is no concern, but these can't be regular meals. As they say, you can't have your cake and eat it too.

I hear you on the confusion Angel. I have always been told to test 2 hours post meal. But in a new book I have been reading, they talk about 1 hour testing. When to test, when to test...

I know! It's so confusing. Sometimes I hear to take it before eating, 1 hour after and 2 hours after. I don't think I need to monitor that closely yet (and the strips ARE expensive!), so I'm trying to figure out the best times. And basically I'm only testing after I eat something I know I probably shouldn't

Well I think that is great you at least testing on foods you think could potentially drive your sugars up. At least you have a good idea of where it puts your sugars. Knowledge is power!

Regardless of the 1 or 2 hour discussion... I doubt there are many D who can incorporate Waffles as a regular part of their eating. But that doesn't mean you have to deprive yourself... how about a nice omelette with tasty cheese instead?

I typically test before eating, 1h after and 2h after if it's something i know can be tricky or if it's something i haven't eaten for a long time or don't have at a regular basis. I know for eg. how pasta and rice affects me, but then something like pancakes... pancakes needs more testing for me

Hi Bridgette!

There is a lesson in this thread -- you have to learn both portion control as well as how to time your carbs. The Stroopwaffles are very high in carbs -- one would have probably been sufficient (try eating slower). In additon try to put your consumption of high carb foods either immediately prior to or after areobic exercise (still using good portion control) in this way the carbs will go directly to your muscles and be burned for energy.

I know this isn't easy as I struggled with the same problem for some time before I got control over my BG levels.

It's EEEEEEEVIL, I tells ya!!!

They are so sweet and chewy and drooly and ...

OK - I know I shouldn't eat them ... but it's just not fair!
