Hello everyone,

I am new on this forum. Just discovered it as I was looking for a discussion of Metformin which I started today.

Welcome from me, also.

Can someone tell me how to start a new thread? I've looked at every single option and can't seem to find out how to do this. Thanks

At the forum view (i.e., what you see is the list of thread names), there is a "new thread" button to the left, just above the list (where, when you're reading a thread, you see a "new reply" button). If you don't see one, it may be that there is some number of posts you have to have before you are permitted to start a new thread.

Welcome Kathy!

Metformin is rough in the beginning for most...it causes pretty severe diarrhea and sometimes you have to rush to get to the bathroom but hang in there-it does get better and it helps with your numbers after you are on it a few weeks. In the beginning I brought a change of clothes to work in case I needed it...glad I did but now that does not happen to me and I see it as a godsend for my T2.

Here's a Florida wave hello!

Hi Kathy! Hello good evening and welcome to the forum, you have chosen a great site, been taking the drug for some 4.5 years, yes! had my problems with it as like any other, however, we're all different, see how it goes for you.

Metformin as like any medicine can have side effects, Metformin tablets are usually well tolerated, but sometimes they can cause stomach upsets such as nausea vomiting abdominal pain, diarrhoea, loss of appetite or a metallic taste, if such side-effects do occur, they often get better spontaneously so you should continue to take the tablets unless, your stomach upset is severe or show no sign of getting better after a few days, in this case contact your Doctor.

Many people will try to tell you what you can’t eat with diabetes.
Most will be well-meaning.
Rather than compounding the problem by telling you what you should
eat, I’d recommend a simpler method, eat by your meter.
