| | | BS Questions... Okay so last night I was in the ER cause I fell down the stairs and when I got there It tested.
Got there: 88...Good!
Hour later: 95... Still good.
2 hours later: 83... okay.
The only problem I never ate anything... I know that BG's fluctuate some but is this normal?
Also today...
Fasting: 75... WHOA!
Hour later: 89... Okay
Again didn't eat anything....
Is it normal for your BG to rise even without eating? |

| | | Yes, your liver is releasing stored glucose. Your liver is like a sponge, soaking it up when you eat, and releasing it slowly when between meals.

| | | Lloyd -- great analogy!
And yes, that is one of the liver's many jobs -- regulating metabolism.
It is what it does in non-diabetic (almost said healthy, but, no!) and diabetic humans and animals.

| | | Yes, it is perfectly normal -- for those of us with and without D -- for BG levels to fluctuate throughout the day... even if we have not eaten in several hours.

| | | Don't forget that part of that could also be meter variance. Meters are accurate to 20% so those numbers fall within that variance. But most likely it is your liver releasing glucose into your blood stream. Glucose is fuel. If you are not providing fuel for your body it will use its stored fuel. This is why many people have higher levels in the morning when they first wake up even though they have not eaten anything.
One thing I noticed is that you are getting nervous with numbers that are not low or close to it. I know you have problems with lows so maybe your doctor has asked you to maintain a higher than normal baseline? If not, anything above 70 is perfectly fine. In fact, in a non diabetic person anything between 60 and 120 is considered normal glucose for a random test.

| | | You're understandably upset. It sounds like you need ot find a doctor who will listen to you and work with you. I know, easier said than done.
You might also want to take a break from the net for a few days. Quit reading any medical sites, take a break from a place like this, and reconnect with your friends/family. Go see a movie, go to the mall, just get out of your house/apartment.
Sometimes we can learn too much. It sounds like you just need to take a break for the next few days and not allow it to consume your thoughts.

| | | It honestly sounds like it's just a meter variance, honestly. My meter does it, too, like all meters.
I can test within minutes and have a wide variety of numbers (all within the 20% margin, though).
Your numbers are fine, you will be ok. I know not knowing sucks, but you can't do anything about it right now, so try to focus on something else for now.
I know what you mean with all the health problems, because I have them, too. I just want to feel better. I've been sick a lot since I was a teenager, and no one can tell me what's wrong...I've been to doctor after doctor and specialist after specialist. I'm just hopeful they'll figure it out one day.
Take it one day at a time, you'll be fine, trust me! |

| | | I haven't been around for a while so I probably have missed some of your previous post. But gee, numbers like yours are what most people want to see. Sure your numbers go up and down but in the ranges your seeing they seem to be fine.
When I got here I was seeing highs after meals that might reach 200 once in a while. To me that was awful. To others it seemed pretty good. Your numbers so far don't appear to be reaching elevated points that would be a cause for serious concern at least yet.
My fastings were coming in over the 125 point now and then a couple years back. Now I can see things anywhere from 87 to 105 most of the time. I believe those are pretty respectable for most. So your numbers look very good to me. As someone mentioned you may be overly concentrating on your issues which can cause a lot of distress which is the last thing you or anyone needs if we have glucose issues.
Your at a stage where just keeping an eye on things and taking some care with what you eat is the most prudent action along with finding a good doctor, which isn't all that easy I have found.
