Pre-Diabetes

My doctor found my blood glucose level at 6.4
he said it needs to be monitored and could turn
to diabetes, I noticed I have had unexplained
weight loss in past year and also frquenr urination

My mom also has diabetes, what are the risks
of me developing diabetes??

Hi Azzuriman!

Welcome to DF. Your BG level of 6.4 (115 mg/dL) is a bit high if the test was a fasting level.

A history of diabetes in the family is a risk factor both from the genetics as well as the eating styles. Nobody can say from a single blood test if you will develop diabetes.

What is there for you to do? Assess your eating patterns and try shifting to a lower carbohydrate diet. Perhaps get a meter and strips and test yourself to see where your levels are during the day.

Most of all Don't Panic (advice from the Hitchikers guide to the galaxy) ask questions and perhaps get more tests like an HbA1c.
