| It's a good question. As an insulin dependent during surgery (I got my appendix out some time ago), I need them to do some BG monitoring and if needed, be responsive to an insulin induced low. When getting surgery, it's been discussed, and they've made it clear what they will be doing to deal with it.
I suppose the question comes down to, with the state of your condition, how would you see it impacting your safety during surgery? You're the expert on your body, and apart from talk about it here, you should also discuss it with the team, if there is a risk.
I love the permanent pen idea. Next time I am going to write "please check my BG hourly!" above whatever it is they are working on.
