Metformin

I got diagnosed this Saturday with an OGTT of 11. The doctor put me on 500mg x 2 of metformin. I also changed my diet to low glymecic foods.

I started testing and my results came in normal all day today. For example, 2 hours after breakfast of Allbran, milk, banana and protein shake it was at 7.1. Other time during the day it ranged from 4.3 to 5.7.

I'm confused with these results. Does the metformin and diet have that big of an affect so quickly? Or could the OGTT be incorrect? Or something else.

Nope. Takes 3 - 4 weeks to see it.

You may simply have varying blood sugars, same food, same time of day, for whaddevah reason. I know I did.

Hi pre-d.
Your numbers look like mine...except that 7.1 would be before breakfast. Of course, I probably wouldn't eat that many carbs in a day. You obviously don't need to limit them as much as me, but might want to have less carbs in the morning. Many people are extra sensitive to carbs at breakfast.

So many things effect our glucose levels... stress, illness, tired, depression, some find the seasons and hot and cold... so you will never get the exact same results even with the exact same regime... this is the most frustrating thing about the Diabolical Diesease.

Try not to look at the numbers in the now and today but the average in the rolling 7 days. The now numbers are just to indicate to you what generally certain foods effect you and how... remember that activities such as walking and weight lifting can keep helping the system for days after and that cn effect the results too.

Metformin can take up to 5 weeks to become effective, but diet changes show (to some extent) right away. However, I'd suggest as Des said to keep testing regularly - your numbers might vary from day to day.
