| My sister has had this problem since she was a teen (she's 40 now). I never had a problem with this myself, yet i'm the one diagnosed with diabetes first.
I don't know how long (if ever) that it takes to turn into diabetes. Hopefully, my sister will never have to deal with it.
I would think though that living a healthy lifestyle may keep it at bay a long, long time.
I don't know how the fact that your mom had gestational diabetes would affect you.....I have read that people who have gestational diabetes do have a greater likelihood of developing T2 at some point later in life. At any rate, a T2 does tend to run in families, so do your best to remain healthy, eat a good diet, keep your weight in the normal range, and hopefully you'll never have to worry about it.
