| | | BS 116, shaky, disoriented I was sitting here and noticed I was getting shaky and somewhat disoriented (kinda like the room was spinning) I took my BS and it's 116. I fully expected it to be really low. I'm wondering if I'm coming off a high spike. Otherwise, why would I feel this way? I ate lunch about 2 hours prior to this.

| | | You may be right....Next time take your blood sugar just before you eat, at 1 hr and at 2 hrs....this way you'll see if you're going pretty high at the 1 hr mark. I've learned that you can't go by how you feel. I've been high and felt fine and i've been high and felt shaky...just the nature of the beast I guess.
Did you eat something that was particularly high in carbs?

| | | Yup -- false hypos. I am currently feeling a little of a hypo when I get down to around 100 -- tells me I am running high lately.

I ate a Peanut Butter & jelly on whole wheat bread and some (where's the ducking icon when I need it) chips.
I know, probably not the best lunch. I'm having such a hard time, convincing myself that I am either pre-d or D. I'm hoping my Endo appt on Monday will kick me in the #*^.

| | How about, just consider the false hypos as your BODY kicking you in the patoot?

| | | Yikes <sigh> in my days of ignorant bliss I used to eat a peanut butter and jelly for breakfast. Then I learned here to test 1 hr after eating then 2 hours after ...
let's just keep this simple I no longer get peanut butter and jelly (not even a half)
Once I seen the numbers it no longer tasted good anyways
I can get away with a few chips...few meaning 5 or 6 but it takes real control for me to not touch any more then that so I usually skip them too.
But a nice trade off is I do feel better
good luck
Ja

| | | I was diagnosed as Hypoglycemic a few months ago. I couldn't believe it. I bought a monitor and started my own series of tests....
How could I be Hypoglycemic/pre-diabetic if my BG results never went below 90?!?!?!?
Then I read about 'Relative Hypoglycemia'. Relative to your own baseline. My norm/feel good numbers were in the 120s and when I'd get into the 90s I'd be anxious, sweating, dizzy, shakey, etc.. Ooooh, says I, THAT'S how I can be Hypoglycemic.
Sounds like you may have a similar situation. If you test frequentlyf or a while to learn your 'norm' you'll discover what's 'low' for you. I've been working to bring my baseline down with varied results but still trying.
The six, healthy snacks/meals a day has really helped me.
Good luck,
~T |

| | | Oh, and FYI, we share the 'denial boat' as well. My husband is getting so frustrated with my lapses. I'll follow a great GI diet for a couple weeks, baseline will come down and I'll be feeling great. Then think, "oh, I don't have blood sugar issues, that was just a phase" and into the junk food I go just to see 180s again....drat!
It's just such a silent condition and sorta sneaks up on you. Difficult to believe you can no longer eat what you have had all your life until now.
Right there w/ ya. You eat healthy I will too.... well, I'll try.

| | | Totsied~ Good to know I'm not alone. LOL
I also am similar to you (read from another post) about how fast your BS can change. The other day, I dropped 120 points in 45 minutes.

| | | I've had similar experince especially when I'm out shopping. I get shaky and feel dizzy. Test and I'll be in the 120's. Sometimes I think it is the speed of the drop that causes that feeling. Since I'm a T 2 on meds that don't cause lows I've never been below 95. Bread seems to spike me pretty fast but I usually stay high for several hours. Sometimes adding fat, like peanut butter will delay the spike. The other day I had some pasta salad with pesto and veggies ( dreamfields). 2 hours after I was 103 (WOW) I thought I had the perfect food. I tested at 3 hr and was 140 and 4 hours was 180. So some foods take longer to spike. It makes testing real difficult. |

| | | jwags~ That's good to know about 3 and 4 hour possible numbers. The other night before bed I tested at 10:30 (about 4.5 hours after dinner) and my BS was 125. High for me that long after eating, I thought I'd be in the 80's
