Congrats on that. The question is why were you spiking like that?

I am so excited! I was suppose to start medication today. But starting yesterday I changed to the Atkins diet. My sugars went from consistently 160 to 250 2 hours after ever meal to 100 to 110! So doctor made a deal with me, as long as I stay on the diet and keep my sugars low then no meds! But if I stop diet or my sugars for some reason go back up then I need to go back in and get on the medication! I am so HAPPY! Now if I can just get by Christmas with out an issue we will be doing great! Thanks for reading!![]()

Type 2: Dx 2000
Prandin 3x day
Simvastatin 80mg
Quinipril- 20mg
Bystolic- 10 mg
Aspirin - 81mg
10years @ 6.5% (only 2x > 7%)
Very large spikes there. Then I would question why it changed that much in one day? Congrats! But I would still watch it very closely. I pray that keeps working that well for you!
Thank you! My problem is night time for some reason. Well yesterday before bed without eating anything over 5 carbs. it was 120. The highest I have seen since start Atkins. I am hoping that with time it will resolve its self. I know 120 is not that bad, but 3 hours after eating a 5 carb. meal seems high to me. Fasting was down to 93 though and 2 hours after breakfast was 107. So those are good.
Your doing well for a new comer at it. I would add the additional walking or exercise if you haven't already done that. Studies show that for some people the diet and exercise is the best way to stave off diabetic problems. It may not last forever, but I like you choose to stay away from medications as long as possible. If you have to, you have too and the saying goes.
best wishes

Hi Saabgirl88!
Congratulations on your learning experience. The huge difference in the numbers indicate that your body reacts well to the Atkins form of eating.
I also encourage you to demand some time from your family so that you can get out and do some exercise, even if it's only a half hour. You will feel a whole lot better.
Be well, do good work, and keep in touch

That sounds like a fair deal.
But this is a learning experience, so you might want to make a list of all the things you used to eat between dinnertime and bedtime. That will reinforce the idea that those foods are off limits that time of the day.
I agree - don't haul out the egg nog just yet.
