| | | Re: BG's After a Meal Well,
I've been feeling so good after using the pump have lots of energy. Today noticed I was 131BG at 8:46pm. Decided that I would Eat 2 Tuna Fish Sandwiches with Miracle Whip and Dill Picles on Whole Wheat Bread. I figured 70 Carbs. Bolus 12cc then took a 12.5 Combo Bolus over 2 Hours. At 11:30pm checked my BG and it was 196. Boy does my BG go up over eating any type of Bread.
Even in the Morning if I eat 3 servings of Old Fashioned Oat Meal with a little bit of Raw Goats Milk my BG will raise from 128 to 188 within 2 hours.
New to the Pump as 7-24-2006. On the Animas 1250 with NovoLog. I know just a little over a Month ago My BG's were in the 300's with a Nov 70.30 mix.
I am thrilled that I'm below the 200"s but I have to admit this new found freedom has me going overboard a bit this past Saturday Night I Indulged in the big P (Pizza) and before I could realize watching a good movie I had consumed Six Pieces About 2x2's. Checked My BG bfore Bed and it was 174 and the next day Horrified at seeing 176. I guess it could have been worse.
You know being able to eat without getting so sick and Thirsty and all those trips to the Urinal and feeling of Nausea is pretty liberating. In the past 6 months I lost 30lbs and was so hungry all the time. Then going on the Pump getting Hungry and putting on weight.
I feel so guilty especially now that I have all this Energy. I even went so far as to munch a snickers bar and bolus for it and boy was it good. That would have laid me up for long time.
Also feelings of going low even though I haven't been lower than 116 that I know of. Also having trouble with thinking and am at a loss for words at times now.
Well it's time to buckle down and eat more sensibly.
Anyone else after getting on the Pump indulged in a Snickers?

| | | The only way I can keep the swings under control is by keeping the carbs way down. The few times I have tried things like pizza are the few times I have gone surprisingly high since starting the pump.
I have indulged in a few things that I didn't try before, but it seemed like it usually ened up off target. It's okay once in a while. Plus, the control is much better, overall.
Glad you are figuring it out and getting healthier! Keep going!

| | I find that my body tolerates carbs better when I have good tight control. Fine tuning the settings on your pump can be tedious, but well worth it. If I am at my target bg and I bolus 15-20 minutes before eating, I find I can handle carbs much better. Some things will shoot up my bg no matter what I do, such as some breads. For these, I break out the big guns, Symlin. |

| | | Yes, I do use it strategically. I probably use Symlin about a dozen times or so a week. I find it very helpful if my bg is a little high and I want to eat. It works great as it brings me down about 30 points pretty quickly if I bolus with the Symlin and wait 15-20 minutes to eat. Then my bg usually flat lines for the next 1 1/2 to 2 hours. |

| | | dgrilli, What you eat will determine how healthy you will be in years to come, so it is important to eat properly. Certain foods have a high glycaemic index,i.e. they relase glucose quickly and consequently you will get a high BG reading after eating them. For better control low G.I. foods release slowly and should give a better BG reading. Certain Breads have a medium to high GI and as such will have the result of increasing your BGs say 1 or 2 hrs later. Foods which are high in fat should be avoided as much as possible to avoid complications with heart problems etc later. Good luck with your pump | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
