Through the Roof

My bg has been completely whacked today:

123 11:45 pm
231 3:05 am
144 7:07 am
204 11:40 am
258 1:58 pm
265 2:40 pm
181 3:29 pm
174 4:17 pm
145 5:27 pm
136 6:33 pm
169 8:00 pm
383 10:01 pm

I woke up nauseous and was felt like upchucking all day. I actually left work because I felt so bad and because my bg was almost 265 even though I had taken several correction boluses. My stomach feels better now, but my bg are through the roof. I don't feel sick and I ate the same thing my son did for dinner last night.

Gosh, Cyborg, they're like a roller coaster. It seems like they'd all be high/higher if you were getting sick. Do you think you've gotten a bad batch of cannulas?

Sorry to hear that you weren't feeling well~ but hopefully it's just a bug ad you'll feel better ( and have better control) tomorrow.

Sorry this is happening. Have you had this ben cannula thingy again? If not then its just a bug. Anything that happens to our bodies, our Bsugars show.

I think it is/was some kind of bug. Had more fun before bed, had to fight off a low before going to sleep and woke up in the middle of night to a low. My bg rollercoastered because I must have taken at least 12 boluses yesterday. In fact, my TDD for the day was almost 90 units, 50% more than normal.

Hope you're feeling better today and that your blood sugars get back to normal.

I don't feel anywhere near as bad as yesterday. Today I don't feel the extreme nauseau. My bg is a little elevated today, but I take it that I'm at the final stages of whatever I caught.

Ok, all bets are off. My bg is not a little elevated today, it's through the roof again! I've only had about 16g of carb all day and a couple peices of jerky. I also set a temp basal at +50% over 3 hours ago and I'm now up to 262. I just now changed my temp basal to +100%, thus doubling my basal. I wish I knew the cause...

Cy is there anyway of seeing your doc asap?

If its a bug, maybe its still there. If it is, it wont leave your BS level alone, unfortunately. Having a check up or even some Blood drawn can answer this. The fastest way to get to an answer is visiting you ER.

What do you mean? Other illnesses, whether they are infectious or metabolic, will cause blodd sugars to bounce around, right? Hmm....I wonder then if all along, my past few years of trying to control my sugars, even being consistent with what I eat and how much insulin (ratios) that sometimes work and most of the time don't, sugars ranging from the 50s to the 400s within the same day, etc., I maight have another chronic disease that has always been overlooked! Another endocrine problem? An infection -viral, bacterial, fungal, parasital(sp?). Maybe just a small insignifiacnt infection, such as a skin infection, always having an open wound, can cause my sugars to stay high? When I'm thinking that the high sugars was the primary problem, causing the skin infections to become worse, and now, they both are feeding off one another! What do you think? Am I just crazy?

I spend every day, every hour, now, troubleshooting and trying to figure out my body.

And don't forget all those OTHER wonderful hormones-- we've all got 'em, but they especially get complicated for us females!

Cy, I hope you're feeling better now. I know you've probably changed sites a few times during the last few days. Since it sounds like your insulin caught up with you during the night last night, maybe it's an absorption issue? Or, again, maybe that bent cannula was just one of several defective ones...? How has your day gone today?

I'm definately fighting something off. My bg was under very good control until yesterday morning. I did have slight nausea today, but not enough to warrant a trip to the ER. I might go to my MD if I don't feel better by end of week. I think my sugars dipped last night because I was running an increased basal on top of taking correction boluses while I had IOB.

Well, if it's any help... I've found that when I'm sick, an increased basal works better than correction boluses. It still takes a little trial and error to get the rate right but seems to prevent the crashing that comes long after the corrections that don't help anyway.

By the way, Cy, have you checked your ketones? That 383 and other highs could have caused the nausea/upchucking. On the other hand, we've had a stomach bug going around here in the Mid-South, so maybe you've got a bit of it there, too.

This is the first time I've used the temp basal feature. It is very nice to be able to increase all basals for a set amount of time. It did help today. The first thing I did when I saw readings that high yesterday was to check ketones as I also thought maybe they were causing the nauseau. The keto strips did not show any ketones at all. I think that stomach bug may have made it down here...
