Oh happy day!

So...you all know about my complaints having to do with the diabetes clinic that I go to. The last I was told, they had decided (according to two of the nurses there) that they were not going to support the Cozmo pump, which happens to be the one I want to get. Well, I decided to call the Cozmo rep in my area, who I've had a wonderful relationship with, and let him know how disappointed I was...I also told him how the above mentioned two nurses were bashing his company to me and a couple of other patients there. He was shocked about this because he'd just had dinner with the medical director of the clinic, and he seemed to be very interested in the new software release and the upgrades (oh, which by the way, were approved by the FDA on Thursday of last week).

So anyway, as he and I were talking, he asked me why I didn't just ask my PCP again about her filling out the SMN and prescribing it to me, since he could set up my training with someone from his team. Well, I had to go in to see her yesterday for yet another pro-time check so I asked her. Her response, "Well I thought that only endos could prescribe them." I told her that the rep was the one who told me to ask her, and that he's got a lot of people on pumps who were prescribed by just their PCP. She said, "Well sure then! But I still want you to be under the care of the new endo I referred you to, but let's get you that pump!"

Can I just say, "YAY YAY YAY YAY YAY"?

So, really, I filled out the SMN and she signed it. I took it to the front desk and they faxed it and my insurance information for me.

I called my Cozmo rep last night and let him know that the office should have everything as of 2 PM PT... We had a nice chat, he was so happy for me...in fact, he's only about 10 minutes from my house right now (he is at some conference in Tacoma - lives in Portland), that had he known earlier he said he would have taken me and my dh out to dinner, but he had other plans. He said that he'd do my pump training too, if one of his team members wasn't available...

As far as he can tell, unless there's something else that my insurance company requires from my doctor (which there shouldn't be since WA state has a mandate for a "no questions asked" on diabetes supplies and such), I should have my pump here by Thursday at the latest.

Now, here's my question to all of you... I have an appointment set at the crappy diabetes clinic for Thursday to see my regular nurse and the nurse practitioner. (Probably so they can tell me I can't get a pump until next year sometime the way it's going with them...) Should I cancel, or should I go and tell them what they can do with themselves? I also have an appointment with the new endo on Monday the 13th, so I'm hoping I'll like her. LOL

Okay, so YAY YAY YAY!!!

Will you pay a copay for the doc vist? If so, I'd cancel, but write a letter explaining your reasons for going with another doctor. With copies to Cozmo and any board of physicians you can think of. I'd say it's just time to shake the dust of that office off your feet and move on!

Oh my gosh! I'm so excited for you! You will love it! Way to go!

I'm also stoked to hear the upgrade gained approval. Hopefully we will see it out soon!

CONGRATS on the progress with the pump!!! If it were me I would cancel the apt with the nerse practioner and wait till you have the pump in hand. You should have it by your endo apt. just tell the endo you have the pump and ask whether she will support you or you need another Endo. there is no reason you should have been put through all that you have been in order to get a device that will help your control. I am soo glad you are finally getting a pump -- You deserve it!

Congratulations.

I also suggest waiting until you have the pump in hand before doing anything you might regret. Good luck...
