| | | Need your opinions on joining Weight Watchers while learning to pump
A friend of mine wants me to join Weight Watchers with her. I've belonged before and have lost weight. My dilema is, I'm going to start pumping in one week. Will joining WW now confuse the issue when it comes to carb counting, which is what I should be doing for pumping? Or would it help, and make pumping easier. A part of me says don't do it, it will make things more confusing and I have enough to deal with learning to pump, without having to count calories for WW and carbs for the pump. What do you all think?

| | I say definately do it! On the program, you'll be eating healthier, which is better for D. If you do the Points Program, you'll have to figure the grams of fat and fibre in the food you eat, so thinking about the carbs is a bit more to think about but what the heck! Do you already carb count? Maybe I'm jumping the gun, because when I did the program, I wasn't diabetic yet. I was already keen on reading nutritian labels so the fat and fibre thing was easy. Then came diabetes, and I just slipped into counting carbs instead of the fat and fibre that I was already used to counting. I say, GO FOR IT! It's a New Year and I'm sure you can do it! Just take the time to figure out your food. Make the time for yourself! Can you tell that I get excited talking about it? Good Luck to you!

| | Weight Watchers has a fairly new program called the "Core Plan". My neighbor switched to this program from the point plan she was on.
Here's some info from MSNBC: Weight Watchers overhauls its diet plan - Fitness - MSNBC.com |

I really appreciate your input!

| | Hi, I joined WW the week that I started pumping, actually, the day AFTER I started pumping..and I have been fine!!! I do not do the Core plan, but the FLEX/Points. I find the points better, it allows me to eat however I want, and I've had no problem w/my blood sugar, or any confusion w/carb counting and points calculation. Good luck!

| | | I'll end up starting the day before I begin pumping. I'm just so excited to start pumping. My whole life is revolving around one week from today, when I get my pump put on, and I become Assimilated, lol.

| | Hi again KritterMom! I'm so excited for you - I LOVE my pump and would never want to go back! I was thinking that it might be good that you're doing them at the same time because when you first start out on the pump, you'll probably start off by eating mostly whole foods and types of food that are easy to carb count so that your (pump set-up person) can properly help you set your basal rates, bolus ratio, and insulin sensitivity factor. The diabetes educator that set me up on my pump made phone contact with me every night around dinner, (for a week) and I'd read to her my list of what I had eaten, the number of units of insulin that I'd taken, and my pre and post bg numbers. While we were doing this I didn't eat anything that I wasn't totally sure of the carb count because I wanted to be as accurate as possible with all these things that she was setting up for me. Soooooo, long story short(?) eating like this for a week will also be a good kick start to the diet (lifestyle change - LOL!) and will make the counting for WW easier too! Well, good luck and please keep us posted!
