Smile Is anyone already using the minimed with the blood sugar attatchment?

Is anyone using the minimed pump that has the blood sugar attatchment with it? Do you like it or is it just more stuff that you have to wear on your body and make more holes in you? Is it going to be a real eyesore if you are overweight? does it stick out as much as the pump does like from your side?I mean is it another box you have to wear along with your pump on your side? I get a new pump this year and I am really interested in this pump but I am already overwieght and am worried that it is going to stick out more and make me more self concious. Any info would be appriciated I have been to the site but it's not really allot of help

I have it and wear it daily. It is not another box. It will be hidden under your shirt. All the world will see is your pump, 1 box, like a pager. It is not "big"

I wear the CGM (continous glucose monitor) it is a bit uncomfortable at times after all it is another hole in your body. and you DO still have to do finger sticks to calibrate the sensor about once every 12 hours. and it is VERY expensive and insurance will not yet cover it (as far as I know) and you have to replace the transmitter every nine months. At a Thousand dollard a pop, it does get costly. If you wear tight profils clothes, you WILL see the transmiter thru your clothes. if you like loose fitting clothes, its easilt hideable. hope this helps, good luck!

BCBS of GA paid for mine and the sensors. They didn't fuss about it or resist. I think more insurance companies are coming on board. It is not uncomfortable to me at all. No different than an insulin infusion set to me.

I think you'll be hooked once you try it... and if it's as accurate as mine.... you won't give it back......

A coworker was on a clinical trial for an internal pump. The trial ended and they gave him the MM with CGMS. He had used it for one day and he was thrilled with it.

I looked at the graph on his pump and it was impressive. His BS had a slight downward trend over a 6-hour period. He will monitor the trend (during the same 6-hour period) for a few more days and, if the results are consistent, he will use the info to adjust his basal profile. I must say it looks very useful for trends whether or not the readings substitute for finger sticks.
