Quite honestly, Minimed was the first pump on the market. Minimed's were the most advanced pumps for a long time. And they grew. And hired a lot of people. And bribed endo's to prescribe them before that was illegal. And gave out "samples" to CDEs who they knew used their pump after it was illegal. They got to the top, but it's simply not the best pump anymore, unless you want a CGMS.

But this is getting way off topic.

Some doctors don't even know the others exist. Some won't prescribe an option that they don't know the ins and outs of. MM has been around since at least 1995 (I'm sure alot earlier) whereas both Cozmo and Animas only have about 5 years. Those are the main reasons.

Heck, there's tons of people out there that haven't even heard of Dexcom. I recently went to a local seminar on pumps and they spent alot of time talking about the CGMS units and spent 2 minutes on the Dexcom and about 30 on the MM. The MM rep basically said a CGMS is pointless without a pump, so why not get one built in together.

I agree with this. I mean they all really do the same thing. There may be one slight advantage of one over another and you could make yourself crazy trying to compare features and which is better. I practically made myself crazy when shopping for one.

There are no HUGE advantages to one over another. Everyone wants to argue for their pump brand because they want to reassure themselves that they made the best decision they could have made. It's understandable considering the costs and the commitment to using it for the next X-amount of years. Everyone made the choice that was likely best for them and their needs. It doesn't mean that everyone else's wants and needs in a pump are the exact same as ours.

Can't we all just get along? LOL

"The MM rep basically said a CGMS is pointless without a pump, so why not get one built in together."

I won't agree totally with that, but it is easier to deal with one thing on your side than 2. I would prefer what I have now, two stuck in me, one on my side.

If you have a seperate pump, say a Cozmo or Animas, I STILL think having a CGMS (MM) is worth it. I don't know about the other brands like Dexcom, because I haven't used them and I won't say they are bad/inferior even though I have read bad things about them. I know how accurate the MM one is, and if someone is toying with the idea of getting one, I'd push them all the way, because I personally use one every day and have found it to be very reliable. Simple as that.

It's guaranteed waterproof when it leaves the factory but is not guaranteed after that. Yes, I know I know they get replaced when they malfunction because of water but then doesn't that not make it 100% waterproof?

Why speculate? How exactly do you know that MM has no idea what they are going to do? That seems a little far fetched don't ya think?

Looks like another bashing thread here...

Who said? BD sold the blood glucose monitoring business to Sanvita, Inc.

Not only that, MM is working with other blood glucose monitoring, so you will be able to have a choice with which meter you like to use.

Rather than bashing, we should try to come up with a list of desirable features that none of the pumps have. Those of us that are involved in the next generation of pumps may have some influence...

The topic at hand here was, Wouldn't this feature be awesome. Soon after it went way off topic and turned into a “pump war“. During these “pump wars” people’s feelings get hurt and it always ends in an ugly mess. For this reason we have a new rule here at diabetesforums.com and that is we will no longer tolerate pump company bashing.

We all chose our specific pumps because of the different features we liked. This isn’t a contest of who’s got a better pump! A pump is a pump and no matter what features each one has they’re all the same in giving overall better control of our blood sugars. Please let’s not forget this!
