First summer with pump....worried about hot temps outside

This is my first summer with the pump... I'm worried about the heat damaging my insulin. Outside temps here in NYC have been as high as 95 degrees already... tell me how you guys deal with this and at what point should I be worried...

The only precaution I've taken so far is.... when my car is parked in the heat for a while I stand outside while the AC cools it off so that I dont sit into a 100-120 degree oven and denature the insulin.

I'm worried about just BEING outside though...I have the pump on a clip on my belt.

Unless you work outside in high temps every single day, I don't think you have to worry about it, Kevin. My car is parked in the sun while I'm at work and I just get in it and drive off. I do yard work on weekends and leave the pump on. The only time I leave it inside the house is when I disconnect to go swimming in my pool.

Yeah, I do yard work in the 90+ degree VA heat all the time...I've been to amusement parks all day in such heat with a pump, no issues. Insulin is amazingly resilient at times. I am sure it loses something exposed to the heat, but my thinking is what it loses is lost at the "long-term" side of the equation: In other words, insulin exposed to hours and hours of 90 degree heat will work well for a couple weeks...but probably not work well at all around four weeks after exposure.

I live in California. I hike in temps of 100+ and kayak in 100+ weather. I have never had insulin go bad. The short time of sitting in a hot car won't damage your insulin.

This is my second summer (in Florida) while pumping. So far, no heat related issues..

I accidentally left a bottle of Humalog in the car once for 10-15 minutes and it went bad (it was very hot even though it was in Colorado). In my pump so far I haven't had any problems and I've been active in similar weather as NYC for 4+ hours outside at a time.

Granted this is my first summer on the pump, but I spent plenty of time out in the heat and sun and haven't had a problem. I usually don't expose the pump to direct sunlight, it's usually under a shirt or tucked into a pocket of something. No problems, however it does make me wonder, I've just bumped up my ratios a bit. Hrm.....
