| | | switch from paradigm 512 to animas 2020? I was thinking about trying the animas pump. I have the 512 now, but am not totally happy with it, mostly cos i'd like to be able to set a lower basal. And the 2020 looks cooler anyway
Just talked to my diabetic team and they are fine with switching. glorious healthcare.
Anyone got any tips or advice?

| | | You've only had diabetes a year, and they're gonna let you switch pumps? Not sure how Sweden's system works, but that'd be a hard sale in the US. |

| | | Yikes,
I cannot even get my insurance to let me upgrade my pump from 715 to 722.
I guess the biggest question is will they let you switch back if you hate the new one?

| | | yeah we are pretty spoiled here. Public healthcare. I can pretty much switch as i want to. i'm gonna contact animas and see what they have to offer, i might be able to loan one for a while.
They'd let me have my old one back too, should i not like it. it's great.

| | | I have the Animas 2020. Im a former MiniMed user, i love it due to low basal and bolus rates that you can do with Animas, Been a pumper for 12 years. I also have the cute pink one. You can also customize your food database on the foods that you eat often. |

| | | Thomas, I think it's good that you're able to switch as needed, and hope that your new pump will suit your needs.
To me, a lower basal increment is decent reason enough for wanting or needing to switch.
All I can say about the US (or America), is that if this country would allow people to switch (withOUT arguing) if a need like this arose, then it would truly be a "free market" after all, wouldn't it??

| | | We do have a good medical system, I however doubt that it will always be like this. Private healthcare insurance is becoming more common here too. The diabetes association here had to work hard to get the insulin free of charge for us. But learning how much some people on this forum struggle with insurance, and knowing that i'll in the future go back to america has defintely made me appreiciate my free pumps and supplies more. And also kept me from wasting anything.
I only wish i could give the pump to someone on this forum who needed it, but i don't technically own it.

| | I know it's too late as you've made the decision to switch to the Animas. I posted videos to YouTube that show how to deliver a super bolus with a Minimed 512, Animas 2020, and Cozmo 1800 pump. These give you some idea of how each pump works.
You can find all three by going to YouTube.com and searching for "super bolus", or just follow this link.

| | | thanks for the vids!
I just placed the order for the 2020. I noticed that the prize was 6,375.62 usd. That's a lot. What exactly makes them so expensive one wonders?
My nurse wasn't all too happy about me switching so soon though, but she was ok with it. It'll arrive next week, and theni have to say goodbye to my paradigm. Oh the good times we've had...

1) The R&D that goes into the pump and each pump after that one.
2) The warranty service is generally outstanding. What other items out there do you buy that you can have a new one the next morning before 10 am when it breaks? I doubt your DVD player came with that kind of service.
3) They generally use technology that isn't available everywhere else. The Animas 1200/1250/2020 uses a very precise motor to give the smallest dosing available of all pumps. To do that there has to be a great motor and other electronic components to obtain that sort of precision. And if you look at what .05 units of insulin looks like, you'd be amazed it can give just that amount.
4) The service before you purchase the pump. They are willing to work with the insurance companies and doctor's offices to do all the paperwork for you if you hit a roadblock to find a way over that roadblock.
Compared to other medical devices out there pumps fall in the right price range for what they do. It's just unfortunate that the supplies cost so much. I can understand the expensive price of a pump, but why does a piece of plastic with a needle on the end and some tubing cost $13 (one infusion set.)

| | | I LOVE LOVE LOVE the animas 2020, I also have the pink and I never knew that diabetes could be this simple. The 2020 takes "most" of the work out of it.
