Current retail cost of pumps?

Does anybody know the actual current retail pricing for most of the insulin pumps out there?

I checked into it about two years ago and the prices ranged from $5000 to $7000.

They are all generally the same price otherwise insurance would deny based on price and I'm not sure of any insurances that refuse certain models. It's hard to really find the price because insurance companies talk down the price to as low as possible. The easiest way would be to find someone that is paying 100% out of pocket on here. Heck, I guess if someone paid 20% and paid it all (no max out of pocket) then just multiply that by 5 and that would be the price.

I did a quick search online and found this...

Better Living Now: Diabetes Pharmacy > Insulin Pump Therapy > Insulin Infusion Pump

I don't know what the insurance price or how accurate those are but the pricing is roughly as follows...

Cozmo: $7,549.85
Animas: $8,843.00
Minimed x22: $10,314.68

I don't think this is a good way to figure the price. If you pay 20%, you are paying 20% of the contracted rate, not retail.

I think the best way to find this out is to call the pump company and ask. I am pretty sure if Medtronic was the most expensive pump out there, insurance companies wouldn't push them so hard.

It would be great to post the prices you find out from the companies themselves.

Technically if one pays in full they should be able to pay whatever the insurance rate is. Finding that number out though may be extremely hard.

So far I have Minimed at $6195 and Animas at $5975. As for the support, both answered immediately but Animas was friendlier. They asked me how I would be paying and said if I paid in full that the rate is lower and if I couldn't, they had numerous different payment plans available to meet my needs. Minimed didn't mention anything about helping me pay for it.

I recently got a new MM 722 and my insurance company was charged $6195 by Medtronic, allowable amount $4656.00 and my copay was $930. The net that the insurance company paid was $3720.00.

That sounds about right duckhunter. I found the price on the Medtronic site and it was exactly what you and Jedi said. $6,195.

The Omnipod system is around $1100, give or take a 100. The control device/glucometer (they call it a PDM) is about $800. The individual pods $34, and are sold in boxs of 10 (box cost $340). This will last for approximately a month. Each pod works for 3 days.
The initial outlay of money is cheaper then a "traditional" pump, however there is a recurring cost associated with the monthly supply of pods. You will also have to use the Freestyle testing strips with the PDM.
Hope this helpful.
