| | | Butt/back sites.... I've tried using my butt/back for infusion sites a few times now. My first time (butt) was relatively successful, but quite inconvenient for getting tangled up when I went to the washroom, etc. My second try (back) was painful. Painful to put in, and painful for the whole 3 days I had it in. My third try (butt) was a disaster. First, I got a terrible back spasm while wrenching myself around to put it in. My husband had to come help me finish stick down the adhesive and attach the tubing. Then later that evening while going to the washroom I accidentally caught on the tubing and gave it a wicked yank. It seemed fine still (with the Sils that I use you can see through the tape and see that the cannula is still in), but later I ended up with a No Delivery Message. I changed the tubing (but not the set) and it worked again, so I figured it was fine, but then later when I went to the washroom I got caught on it again and gave it another bad yank. Then another No Delivery. I changed out the whole thing and put the new set back in my abdomen.
So my questions are a) how do you keep from getting caught on the tubing when you use a back/butt site, and b) where do you put it so it's comfortable?

| | | I'll be interested in answers too. The further I get around the back (I'm creeping back there), the more likely I seem to scrape it on car doors or accidentally swipe it with my hand in bed.
Belyro, one thing I felt I should say when reading your accounts.. if it's painful after a few hours, remember of course you can just ditch that one and do another one. I know that seems so obvious but I know how it is! You think it will settle down, then before you know it you have this pain for 3 days! For me, this can occur anywhere. Of course there may have been a problem with the particular site you chose, (I hate thinking about hitting organs etc) but I rack it up to sometimes just hitting a nerve cluster wherever you are...

| | Are you using the Silserter? That's the only way that I can do butt sites without help from DH, unless I grow a third arm
It took me a couple of weeks to get used to slowly dropping my drawers so that I didn't get my pants or thumbs caught on the site. As for the tubing, I don't notice that I do anything different with it when using my butt rather than my stomach. It gets coiled up and stuffed inside my pants.
I use the area from the outside seams of my pants to about the middle of my jeans pockets. Vertically, they're below my hipbone and above the tops of my jeans pockets. I don't have any luck with back sets- too skinny, I guess.
Good luck with this! It took some getting used to, but I really do prefer tush sites now.

I don't have any luck with back sets- too skinny, I guess. | I wasn't using the Silserter. I don't have one and don't really want to buy one b/c I like manually inserting them. I like being able to see exactly where it's going and what I'm doing. (Control freak here.)
My site was probably right inbetween the outside seam of my pants and the middle of my jeans pocket. About the same height as you too. I think the lack of fat on my back was maybe why my back set wasn't comfortable too. I don't anticipate trying those anymore.
I think part of the problem for me is that I always wear my pump on the same side as the infusion set and at about 8:00 or 4:00 on my waistband (if my bellybutton is 12:00). So I think having the pump at almost exactly the same spot as the infusion set is causing more tangling.
*sigh* Maybe I should just try again. I'm going to Florida in a couple of weeks and I want to be able to hide my infusion site while wearing a bikini. :P It's not the end of the world if I can't, but it's preferable. I do put the sites pretty low on my abdomen, though, so that might still work.

| | You know, if you had a fat a$$ like me, you wouldn't have any pain problems what so ever!
I sit on beer caps all the time and don't feel a thing for hours!

DH is coming out too, though, and we're going to stay a few extra days, so his flight and the extra hotel nights are still on us.

| | | Hey Beth..........
I don't use my butt area, per se. Let me try to explain this the best I can. LOL
With my thumb on my hip bone and my fingers spread out touching the side of my thigh and the beginning of my butt, that's where I insert my set. I insert the first site where my fingers end and in 3 days when I change sites, I move it up a couple inches. I can usually get 3 good sites on that one side before moving over to the next hip/butt area and starting again.
Hope that makes sense!

That does make sense. I might have to try that (although, if I'm understanding correctly, it's a spot that would show in a bathing suit). Do you end up sitting on it at all that way?

| | | Beth.......I would consider myself small built at 118-lbs, but not small enough to wear a real bikini. I wear a "tankini" so I'm able to tuck the top into the bottoms. Usually the lower and middle site doesn't show at all, but the top one does. I have no problems sitting all day.......can't even feel the site........and I have really good numbers using that area. It's easy to insert the site and disconnect without twisting your neck!
Have a great time in Florida! Wish I was going with ya! LOL

| | I use the backside area on occassion. I usually have good luck with that area. I have tried the back area also and had NO luck. I either yank them or they just hurt after a day. I have a fairly ample backside. If you put your hand on your hip with your fingers pointing toward the floor and spread your hand wide.....I put them where you baby finger is touching. You won't sit on them here and they won't show under a bikini (unless it is really tiny).
I did pull the first one out that I put in that area. You have to think before you lower. It only takes on yank on it there and you will remember the next time. | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
