When I was on the pen I would keep them in the fridge until I was ready to use them for the first time. Once I used them I would keep them out of the fridge and in my bag.

Like Jim, I keep mine in the fridge until I use it the first time. Then I carry one in my purse and keep another in my medicine drawer. I think it says you can keep it out of fridge as long as it is cooler than 85*, on the instruction sheet included in the box. When I first started on insulin, I was always worried about keeping it cool...it was a pain when we went anyplace. You will get more at ease with things, it just takes time.

Good evening,

Like Penny and Jim, I leave my pens in the frig until I first use them. Just make sure you keep them "room temp" no hotter then 80 degrees fahrenheit or so ...

on leaving it in the fridge til use.

It used to be never carry your insulin on you because the shaking + heat would = destruction of the protein. I guess they make it stronger now, or put better preservatives in it.<?>
