Started pumping again the other day, to keep my nasty high sugars down while being sick- instead of injecting novorapid all the time. Anyways, i'm feeling quite well again now, bloodsugars are back to normal, and i've gone over to pumping only now (was taking Levemir while being sick). Ditched the problem Quicksets when i quit pumping last time, and now using the Insets and really like them! I was planning to try pumping again around this time anyways to try out the Insets, just started a bit sooner than expected Going to stay with the pump until summer now i think

Been having some lows yesterday and today, probably due to having too much basal since i still have a tiny bit of Levemir in my system and the infections are no longer making my sugar high. But i guess once the Levemir is totally out of my system things should be fine again


Changed Inset this morning, and i can't believe how easy and convenient they are to use! And totally painfree to insert

I've been on MDI for months now and didn't miss pumping actually, but thought i'd give it a go again now

Good for you! That is, if you like it, feel comfortable and physically feel better. I know I do. After the initial getting used to it, and all, I think it's a lot easier and less stressful than MDI. My favorite part is getting your basals set right and not having to starve or feed to keep level.

Will be interesting to see my workmates reaction to the pump on monday

In general though, it feels like people might think my diabetes is more severe when they see my pump, than if they see me having an injection I've even had relatives asking if my diabetes has gotten worse when i first got my pump Guess they didn't know i'm taking long acting basal when off the pump they just saw it as "ok, at first it was enough with some injections at mealtime, and now she has to be connected to that THING 24/7 to live"

I just hope the pump can survive my job I have a feeling it risks bumping into things or there's a big possibility my infusionline will get caught on something... even my sweater get caught sometimes when the plastic boxes on the order tables are broken...

On Friday, I met up with a person I don't know too well, but they know I am type 1. I told her I was getting a pump in a couple of weeks. Her comment? 'You diabetes must be pretty bad, then...'.

She's a nurse...

I do indeed think that people perceive a pumper to be 'sicker' than someone on MDI. As long as it's good for me, I'll live with that perception.

It's really wierd people think diabetes is more severe when being on a pump... it's just the same as on MDI... Have insulin one way or another, or die...

Just hope my workmates won't become food nazis when they see my pump They've been quite ok with me enjoying sweets while om MDI so hopefully they won't change attitude just because i'm using an electronic device instead of a pen...
If they do ask me "should you be eating that" i'll just have even more instead

I suspect that pump vs. MDI severity issue is an "out of sight out of mind" one. If they don't see it, you must not be that sick. And of course people generally don't like to see visual reminders that someone is "sick." The only people who know about my pump are people to whom I've described (way ad nauseum!) why I'm doing it, so there's no way they'd ask that w/o seeming foolish, and few people want that either . So now you have ample opportunity to bore them to tears ("well, you see, my basal is rate is now based not only on my most recent BG [acronyms imperative] but also on my insulin to carbohydrate ratio and my ... [snore] ")

They should stop bugging you pretty soon.
