...because she's probably one of the few people who read my blog. I talked with my doctor about my new healthy "lifestyle" (the Weight Watchers and joining a gym and actually *going* to the gym)... I've been having lows like crazy because of it, have done basal tests and adjusted my Cozmo accordingly. Well, out of the conversation my doctor says she wants me to get a CGMS. I happen to live in WA state where there's this nice mandate that says "any and all prescribed diabetes supplies must be covered under insurance".

Well, she filled out the paperwork, I filled out the paperwork, and I have a new Paradigm 722 w/ CGMS on its way to my house...! It's, of course, purple.

I honestly didn't think that I'd get a new pump out of my insurance and figured I'd just be getting the Guardian on its own. But my insurance hasn't ever paid for any pump supplies since we changed over last July (I had a good back up of everything except the IV Prep), so they called and asked me if I wanted the pump too. Though I don't like the look of the 722, I said okay to it anyway... I mean if they're willing to pay for it!

Now I'm deciding if I want to wait for a trainer to actually show me everything or if I want to just transfer everything over on my own... How different is the 722 from a Cozmo? I know that it uses the BD Link meter, which I won't, so I'll have to input my bgs on my own right?

I didn't take pics of me opening my Cozmo...maybe I'll take pictures of this shipment? Hehe.

Hey Rikki,

I'm looking forward to your experiences with CGMS and Cozmo. I've been considering a CGMS for some time, but have been dragging my feet for the release of the Navigator. Now that I see you have to leave a little piece of plastic in your skin with each sensor insertion, I'm not nearly so enthusiastic.

Rikki, how could you forsake me and go over to the dark side?? You are as bad as Duck. LOL. j/k.

My endo told me at my last appt that he wants me to do a 3 day CGMS. It will cost me $160 if my insurance won't cover it. Good thing he's wanting to do it before we change insurance companies (Hubby's employer is going from National Benefits Administrators to BCBSofNC).
BTW, where can I find out if my state has that mandate you were talking about?

Cool Rikki, I love my purple 722, I have not tried the CGMS part, just pumping.

Don't worry Cin, I'll still have my Cozmo. MM did offer me all of $500 for it and I turned that down...

Here's a list of the states that have diabetes treatment/supplies mandated. You'll have to read the section of code they link to for your state to get an idea of what is covered. Remember though, if your dh's company is doing a "self-funded" plan, then they aren't covered under the mandate. Definitely find out about that beforehand.

We kinda got lucky because dh's is a self-funded plan but UHC decided to follow the state mandates anyway, but they do cap the DME coverage at $2500, so I'll be paying some out of pocket...

Wow, Rikki, that's great that your insurance company will pay for the CGMS! My husband works for the State of RI which is "self-funded". They paid for my pump and all other supplies, but will not pay for the CGMS at this time.

I'm pretty sure you'd be able to program the 722 on your own but from what I understand from other friends using the CGMS, I'd definitely wait for the trainer on that.

I am SOOOO jealous. I'm appealing my first turn down for the cgms here. Have fun & good luck getting lower A1cs since that is the goal!

It's cool that they offered to get you the whole pump instead of just the CGMS portion.

I'm very happy with the standalone CGMS unit. It wakes me (it's VERY loud) when BGs head too high or too low, before they even get there. The predictive alarms Rock! The beauty is I get to keep using the pump I love best & the CGMS system that works best (for me, anyway). That said, I totally understand being able to switch back & forth...and, if they're willing to cover it, why the heck not!?
