Well on Monday i finally started on an Animas 2020 trial pump! (can buy my own after 6 weeks.)
I had to go on a four day teaching program, which took you back to all the basics before I got on a pump, just so they where sure you would be safe on the pump. Monday started with carb counting, because apparently there are still many people here in New Zealand that are not carb counting, just guessing. We where then taken over all the mechanics of the pump, how load it ect. On Tuesday we connected up!

And the rest of the course we went through exercise and what to do if the pump malfunctions.
I have only been type 1 for 8 months (18now) and was completely against the pump for a long time. I didn't want to look into it at all because, like many people, i didn't want to have to be connected to something 24/7. After about 6 months though i decided to go for it, just because of the increased freedom, such as sleeping in or missing meals, and more even results. (Even on pens though my HBA1C is 6.3 without many highs or lows)
First impressions, I LOVE this thing already. Even after 5 days I have gotten used to it and don't notice it in my pocket and cant feel the site at all! I have been trying to sort out a good basal rate, which I have done for the evening and overnight, but am working on the afternoons now. I am amazed how flat it keeps it compared to lantis! I love the "Insulin on board" feature, I is really useful if you are thinking about correcting.
Not many problems, my cat loves the tubing and tries to pounce on it and I caught him about to bite it yesterday, so the tubing is now kept hidden away.
I will have to get a belt or something for night because when i wake up for the alarm, I forget that it is connected to me and I roll over the other way and it gets wrapped around be and pulls on the tape that holds the loop of the tubing, so that will need to be sorted out.
Overall I love this pump, and will probably get this one. I looked at the Cosmo and others, but my clinic will subsidize all the consumables for this pump, so that will save ALOT of money.
Now i have to wait and see what happens when i go back to Uni and become more active. There will be a lot more tweaking in the weeks to come.
