Eating

When you bolus for a meal, do you measure out every single little thing or do you estimate?

For example, if you had cereal, would you have to count the cups of cereal and milk? Or, if you made a Peanut Butter and Jelly, do you measure out everything.

I measure everything until I am used to the portion and then can estimate knowing what it looks like in the cup or bowl (for my son)

I'd have to say I've gotten pretty good at "eyeballing" portions. I do sometimes over or under-estimate but most of the time I do okay.

I definitely don't measure out everything all the time, I usually estimate, which I guess sometimes leads me to problems . I think probably the best thing you should do is to measure whatever it is out at first and then once you see what a portion is you wouldn't need to measure it out the following time, like nan said.

I estimate everything....but I also do that when I bake too and so far everything turns out well ( I do measure things like liquids, flour, sugar but for flavor and other stuff......it is a guess.)

I look at the meal and guess how much insulin I need. And I am usually pretty close. Probably because I have been doing it for so long. Proteins cause the biggest problems because of the time taken to convert to glucose. If the meal contains a lot of protein, I always test within 3 hours and have an additional bolus, if neccessary.
