Hi all,
So i'm back from San Francisco - i went there as part of my role as a Novo Nordisk Young Voice in time with the American Diabetes Association Scientific Sessions (travelling with the
Novo Nordisk Changing Diabetes Bus).
I arrived on the 4th in the morning, around 10am. My main worry was when to change the time on my pump. I had an excellent sleep on the way in the plane, so my basals were still right on. For me, my basal is the same from 6am-11am, and the same from 10pm-2am. So i decided that since the 2 time zones fitted in perfectly, i would change in the sweet spot where my basal remained the same.
And did it work! I thought because i may be tired and muddled up in time zones in SF, my basals would be out of whack. But travelling previously a lot under MDI's, I used to reset Lantus religiously to the new time zone.
The pump made it so much easier, and after i checked in at the hotel my BG was 5.4 - after not going above 7 for the whole trip.
I have to say that it makes travelling much easier. I used to travel over a lot of timezones with MDI's, and resetting my basal coverage was a pain. I would spend soooo long injecting each hour on pens, and therefore accuracy was a pain.
Anyway, if you want to see what we got up to in SF with the bus (and see where it's been and what it is of course), feel free to visit it
online
My report should be up (under Youth Report) within the next week so you can see my view of how it went!
After 4 weeks on the pump, i am extremely happy. I also had my first disconnection when i was in SF. Getting changed, pulled my jeans up and forgot about my site and it got caught on my belt and i pulled it right out! No blood or pain, so i got a new set and inserted - no problems.
