| | | New Record for Infusion site! I got very game with my last infusion set - it was going so well, so i left it in, and inspected it every day over the 3-day recommended period. No dirt, no blood, no infections.
In all it lasted me 8 days, and i took it off yesterday in the shower as i always do and there was only a tiny little mark as if it had been in for one day! I was very happy with how it went, and i only changed it because there were some build ups in the tubing and if i am going to change the tube i may as well change the site.
For those that are interested it was a 9mm InsetII, however i will be moving to the 6mm on my next order (probably next month).
I'm really happy - no scar tissue and no markings since i've started pumping, maybe i just have good skin and good absorption (being skinny and all!).

| | | If I were you, I wouldn't be doing that!!! I'm just worried you might be building up scare tissue. I left one in for 5 days, and had a little itchy knot under the skin for 3 or 4 days afterward. My absorbtion was working so well, I didn't want to change it after 3 days. Sometimes it takes about 3 or 4 hours for a new site to work well.
I know you are young and tough right now; when feeling brave, can't you try 4 or 5 days instead of 8??!!

| | | I leave mine in for 4 days and have for over a year now. No problems with scar tissue at all. 8 days is definitly pushing it.

| | | Hi Alex, you dare-devil. I'm with the others though. I wouldn't be risking a golden staph type infection. I developed one once - nothing to do with an infusion or injection site - and it was really hard to get rid of, and painful. |

| | | I always go a minimum of 5 days, sometimes 7 days. I change sets when my cartridge is empty. No scar tissue, no problems. Diabetic for 44 yrs, pumping for 9. YMMV.

| | | The only problem with leaving it in so long Alex, is that you do not know what unseen damage you are doing to your body. Not worth the risk is it?

| | | i got myself a minor infection after just 1 and half days in! darn!
i dont risk leaving my sets in any longer than 3 full days, besides anything it starts to itch! and the patch comes off easier if i left it in that long too. as you can tell i dont have issues with sets not sticking...quite the reverse! lol

| | | It's certainly something i won't be doing again, i was just amazed at how well it lasted. I had one in recently for 3 days and on removal had dry blood around the infusion site left on the padding.
I was just phenomenally amazed that one could last so long :p

| | | Most I've gone so far is 4 days. Some sites just work more reliably than others (it's all more reliable than MDI so far, so that's a bonus) but when you get one where the control is absolutely flawless it is really tempting to just leave it in that bit longer. Scare stories of infections and scar tissue mean that it's most often 3 days.

And now my pants are filled with tubes
That tangle all around my.... er .... knees
The hours I'm hooked up? All twenty four
And that's it for now until evermore
But I disconnect for up to an hour
For wonderful fun (and sometimes a shower)
And when I 'suspend' it, it plays Barry White
And my wife knows she's in for one heck of a night
But only an hour of that night is with me
As an hour is all I'm allowed now, you see...

| | | I have pushed on to five days and honestly, I won't do it again. You cannot always feel the scar tissue or see the damage. Two days and three tops and I change them out now. No more of that young man! |

| | | The longest I left a set in was 5 days and I only did that a couple of times, when I was using Quick-Sets. I started having so many problems with them (bent cannulas, No Delivery alarms, sky high BGs without getting any alarms...) so when I finally got one that worked I wanted to keep it in! I switched to silhouettes soon after and pretty much always change every three days. I do forget sometimes, usually if it falls on a weekend, but I don't leave them in longer on purpose.
