| | Humalog in pump? My new insurance wants me to use Humalog instead of Novolog which I have been using for several years. My PCP said go ahead and switch because he doesn't want to deal with a pre-authorization and they work about the same. My endo, who is now out of network, but a family friend said, don't use Humalog as it just isn't good in pumps.
I actually started using the Humalog a few days ago because I ran out of Novolog. My numbers have been about the same, maybe a little lower but I'm not really sure. I haven't had any problems yet. Do you have any bad experiences with humalog in pumps? I know some have had possible high heat issues. What exactly are the problems? Clogging, lower absorption?
I'm trying to decide if I should push the new PCP to get it switched or just see how it goes.

| | | I have not used Humalog in my pump but have used humalog. My endo switched me to novalog because she said humalog crystalized and clogged the tubing. Like I say I have no experience using humalog in my pump.

| | | A lot of people on here uses Humalog in their pumps. I've used Humalog in a pump for a very short time. And i like Novorapid/Novolog better. I didn't have any problems with Humalog, but it does have a tendancy to crystalize more than Novorapid/Novolog when being in contact with body temperature for a longer time- like it can be when having it in a pump. Try and see. If you don't like it, you should get your insurance to pay for the medication that works best for you!

| | | I used Humalog the last two years and Novalog the last month.
I had bad sets about one out of every three or four with Humalog. I've yet to have a bad set with Novalog. I got two free vials over the winter and had zero problems then too. |

| | | I used Humalog for over a year in my pump with no problems. My endo just says the Novolog is a little more stable in the tubing a resevoir than the Humalog. I have noticed no difference between the two. My resevoir last me about 5 days and I have had it in heat and cold with no difference.

| | | I have been using Humalog in my pump since I started, which was May 2005. I have not had any problems with it. I fill the 300 unit reservoir and use it until it's empty, which can be 10-12 days. No problems with it clogging or losing potency, even now in the hot summer weather.
I have not used Novolog so I can't compare the two.

| | | I've used both in my pump, but mostly Humalog (my script is and always has been for Humalog). I've never had a problem that I could trace back to the insulin. Typically my problems are the user....
When I get free bottles I will use either. I've never noticed a difference in bgs.
My sister just switched from Humalog TO Novalog because it was a cheaper co-pay for her. However she is like me and will use whichever is available. She hasn't reported any bg changes either.

| | | Humalog for me in the pump, Ok here it goes.....My insulin lasts all 5-7 days in resevoir as long as it is either at room temp or cold, the minute I go to the lake, that is it, it is a goner....I am elevated till I change resevoir
Right now if I am in more heat and I happen to be ok with the resevoir, my sets only last 2-2 and half days, I can get about three out of a sil, if I am just going to work everyday and coming home, I go out to much walking around going to the lake nope, the set won't last....
I noticed prior to pumping I never had to refriderate my humalog and it used to take me almost two months to use it up, now with it being in the pump, it only last 14 days out of fridge so I leave the vial in the fridge...
I am either tempted myself to try novolog, for these reasons or invest in a frio pack for going to the lake, I think a better investment might be for me switching insulins, but since you are going on humalog, see how your bg's are after you are in the hot sun, with the pump hidden MIND you LOL....I try hard not to keep it in direct sunlight, if you notice that your starting to get elevated for no reason and stay that way invest in a frio pack, because let me tell you, I work in the cooler at work, I plummit like anything and stay that way for a while seems like humalog love cold really loves cold.....
I'd invest in a frio pack if I were you if you are going to be in the sun, if you notice a change..

| | | I have used Humalog, Novolog and Apedra in my pump. They all work about the same fore me, I use Novolog now as it is cheaper on my co-pay tier than the other 2.

| | | I never had a problem with Humalog while using it in the pump, and I'd been pumping with it since August of 1996 (when it first came out). The issue I experienced with it was loss of potency due to heat with my mail order insulin from insurance (& this was due to the insurance company storing the insulin in a Vegas warehouse). Because of that issue, I wound up switching to Novolog. Other than the heat causing loss of potency on the insurance mail order Humalog, I've never had any problems with it.

| | | I ended up getting back on Novolog after two site changes (about a week) with Humalog. My endo decided to do the pre-authorization for it. I didn't notice much difference, maybe a tillte bit lower numbers with the Humalog. I put the new Novolog in my pump today. Since my endo felt strongly, I didn't really mind going back to it. Thanks for all your input. It made me feel better to know others had been using it without issue.
