Changing from one type set

So......
Who has changed to a whole differnt infusion sets since pumping?
From which to which?
Reasons why?
Are you glad you changed?
How long did you use each brand set...(1yr?)

I'm thinking of changing from my currents infuison sets that came with my Cozmo to the Cleo (I have used 3 Cleo's and liked them.) I have been using the same sets for 3 years and have no issues just thought maybe time for a change. Since the Cleo's go straight in it might be better per say.

Back when I started... with a Disetronic pump the only one that you could disconnect from the site was a "tender" (just like the sil) I hated it. I had to put them in manually which usually hurt. I couldn't use the MM's Sil-serter because it didn't have the holes for the serter to grasp. Other than that they were identical.

Then Disetronic came out with the "ultra-flex" (if I recall the name correctly) which went in at 90 degrees (also manually, but didn't hurt near as bad) and I loved it.

Now that I'm with MM I've only used the Quick-sets for the most part.

My CDE started me out in Feb 2006 with the Comfort/Silhouette
and I've been using it since until last month. After my fourth deep tissue cellulitis (not counting Eddie the Cat's teething episode) at a site, Cleos were suggested. Since they don't go in so deep, my CDE thought they would be better.

OH MY GOSH. Why did I wait so long? Fast, easy, no sucking it up before insertion. They do come off a little easier, but it helps to keep the tubing away from elastic .

The button/cannula sticks up a little farther and can be snagged in the shower while washing, just be aware. Using an IV prep pad helps it stick better, but you must wait until the prep dries before inserting, and peel the inserter off carefully or the whole thing will peel off and you have to start over with a new one $$$$$.

Lots of bulk to throw away (not so "green") but much much more pleasant to use for a wider variety of sites.

Thumbs up for Cleos from me.

Mich

I started with the sof-set infusion sets when I started on my MiniMed 508. I didn't mind them, but hated the little pig tail that hung off when you disconnected. I used them for about a year or maybe a little more. I got a couple of sil's from a friend and tried them for about a month and didn't like the scarring that I noticed. I called MiniMed and they sent me some Quicksets 9mm and I used them for about six months, but had a lot of problems with kinked cannulas. I finally settled on 6mm Quicksets and have been very happy ever since. I have been using them for about five years.

I started with the MM Sils, but under the advice from my VA Pharmacist I switched over the the 9mm Quick sets. Haven't looked back since.

I started pumping in May 2005 using 9mm Quick-Sets. They worked fine for about 5 months and then I started having problems with the cannulas kinking, getting No Delivery alarms, ending up with high BGs. By November 2005 I was starting to dread changing my set because the problems were increasing. Minimed sent me samples of the shorter 6mm Quick-Sets and I still had problems. My CDE kept telling me that I had to switch to the Silhouettes but they scared me and I kept trying to make the QS work. By January 2006 I gave up, called Minimed and had them sent me samples of the Sils (they sent a free Sil-Serter, too). I used the Sil-Serter in the beginning and it was great, but eventually moved to manual insertion.

I've been using the Silhouettes every since and love them. When the shorter13mm cannula became available I switched to that. I've also tried Sure-Ts and love them for arm sites.

If I didn't have any problems with the QS I would have continued to use them and most like would never have tried another set. I like having different sets on hand because some work better that others in certain areas. I still have a bunch of QS (and Sof-Sets) that I may get brave and try again one day.

I started off using Quick sets and Silhouettes, I didn't care for the quicksets, so, I went to using he sils exclusively, then, I have had 3 deep tissue bouts of cellulitis requiring surgery and inpatient IV antibiotic therapy, what a PAIN in the gasket. So, I have Sure T's I have been using for a month now, I was a little dubious about having a metal needle in me for such extended periods, and for the most part, I don't feel them although occasionally I find a painful location, no bouts of cellulitis so far with the Sure T's. Who knows, I used to really like the silhouettes until I noticed the rather large scars and the my own experiences with cellulitis at the sites. *shrug* we'll see in the months to come how things go.

Hey April.
I've been using the Cleo 90's since I started pumping with my Cozmo in October. I love them. I have tried a couple of Sof-set's but didn't really like them. If you are looking for comfort, the Cleo's can't be beat.
Good Luck with whichever sets you decide to try.

Thanks for the responces.
I guess I'll see what my Endo says..I'm sure she'd be up for switching over. I have plenty of boxes of my currents sets too that would get used eventually.
