Pump coming soon

Finally! After three denials, my stupid insurance finally approved my omnipod. Act of god but it will be here Monday afternoon. I meet with my Diabete's Educator Tuesday to go through my "omnipod experience".

Question for you pumpers out there though. I understand that this pump may break one day or I might need to rest from it. What kind of supplies do I need to keep with me? Do I still have to carry my insulin pen around?

I'm so excited. I can't wait!!!!

I always carry back-up supplies incase something goes wrong. Insulin, syringe, canulas, batteries, spare parts... They will go thru all this during your intro session. Congrats on the change over! When your settled in with the pump, you will love it!

Your diabetes educator will tell you what all you need to have with you. It's always a good idea to carry around an insulin pen or a vial and syringe with you. You never know when you may have a pump problem.
Congrats and good luck.

I don't carry anything with me unless I am going overnight or will be more than 2 or 3 hours from home. If something happens to the pump you will not expire within an hour or so. Some say I may be risky doing this but I have had the pump software malfunction only once. The pump came the next day and I was able to use the existing one until the new one came. I do have syringes and extra supplies when I go away.
