Well the Omnipod has been shipped and I should have it tomorrow.

I think I am going to try to get it going before my pump training

I am interested in how you do with this.. I have been reading about and tried wearing the test one. It isn't covered by my insurance yet.

Hey Jim,

Mine came in Saturday. This is my first pump so I'm waiting for the training this Friday. It has been very hard to see all the stuff in the box and not try it out. I did start using the backup meter because I ran out of strips for my old one.

Well it came today, and only took me 10 minutes to have it set up, filled and running. I put it on my arm, and kind of find myself reaching for my waist to use my pump. I will report back in a week or so and let you know how it goes.

I'm dying to find out how you like it. I just ordered mine yesterday so I should get it in a couple of days. I use minimed right now. I hate the tubing, it's really annoying me now!!

Went to CDE for the Pre-Pump Training at 9 this morning. We had to go over all the diabetic terminology and stuff. (bolus-basal-hyper-hypo- DKA-and everything.)

I knew that he would not start insulin today but I did talk him into a saline trial. He called a company rep to get the OK. So now at least I can play with the PDM and pretend a little. This was the first Omnipod training this guy has done. He was very "anal" about the rules he has agreed to as a trainer. He has done other pumps so at least he knows what he is doing.

I go back this Wedneday to begin with insulin.

Well so far so good, I like this pump. I like the fact that I can wear it on my arm; it does not bother me up there. I find myself having a little better control, because I am finding myself checking my BS more often. Having to carry the PDM around to deliver my insulin, and being my Glucose meter, I seem to check more often and then give myself the insulin rather than just giving myself the insulin and not checking. (With food) It is a pain to have to have the PDM to deliver insulin but I don't find it any more of a pain to carry it around than carrying around a meter.

One thing I did find is that I sleep much better. Before I would wake up a couple times a night because my pump falls off the bed, or my wife rolls over on it, but with the pod on my arm, I have not woken up at all during the last 3 nights.

I don’t get my official pod training at my endo’s office until November, but she already made a comment that she would expect me to start using it before I come is, because that is what I did when I went from the 1250 to the 722 last year.

My biggest gripe so far is the PDM does not show you how much insulin is left until it gets below 50 units, and I like to know how many units I have.

Just started pumping today. It's been a rollercoaster ride today with Bg's. By 8:30 when I started insulin at CDE's office, my lantus had run out and BG crept up to 199. Then it continued to go up to 306 at 1:30. I did not think CDE had my settings set high enough so I began calling him. Oh yeah, I did not think the suggested bolus of 3.3 when I was at 306 was enough so I bumped it to 8 units. Now I start crashing about 3 hours later. I was at 68 around 4:30.

It went out of target range after my meal (235 at 7:30), but is slowly coming down now. At 9:30 it was 147. I'm doing some basal checking tonight so I'll check BG's at 12, 3, and 6.

Rollercoaster are fun but not this one.

wow, awesome! i just got my sample pod in the mail today and have been wearing it since around 12pm and it's now 12am... so far it hasn't come off and that's with running 3 miles... we'll have to see if it lasts! =D

Ouch Robin on the roller coaster ride bit above - especially the correction bolus you made. Hopefully you had LOTS of fast acting sugar around you (I swear by Dex4 and juice boxes).

Hope things have levelled out abit more now. I have to admit - when/if I get to change again - the Omnipod certainly has my interest. I'm still new to pumping - only a year - and I love the freedom I have now from eating when I want / eating what I want (have gained weight since being on the pump - oops) / very few hypos or hypers.

My first 2-3 weeks were a rollercoaster, I was going over 20 (360) most days, usually followed by a rapid crash - not a lot of fun . How many basal rates are you on? Did you start on a single basal rate? In my case, I start to rollercoaster if my basals are not correct. In particular, if my basals are too low before a meal, it seems like even a modest number of carbs, correctly bolused, will send my BG to the stratosphere.

If (like me) you have vary varied basal requirements it is likely that the initial basal setting(s) will be wildly out at certain time of day. You just need to do a lot of basal testing. I would stick to the pump's suggestion for corrections right now. They do tend to be a bit conservative, but you can always test again and do another correction. If you overcorrect, you will just exacerbate the situation.

The good news is that you should get it sorted out eventually.

Not a rollercoaster------just a little hilly. Still going low at night and creeping up during day. CDE changed night basal and that helped just not enough. Waiting for his call now. We changed Insulin-carb ratio Friday and that has helped but not enough. Changed pod Saturday and bled all over the counter.

But it did not leave a bruise. Carb counting is new and I'm improving there so I'm still feeling good about going with the pod.
