Infusion sets

In reply to an earlier post, by someone without the knowledge of the full circumstances, I change my infusion sets more often because I have an open, oozing and bleeding wound on my tummy, that I have had for 11, yes eleven, years. My d nurse and endo agree that if I change more often, I cut the risk of infecions in sites. I wish people would get the full info before *****ing. Sorry to rant but this has really got me very angry.

Carolyn,
Is that from an infusion site? I change my site every three days, but I am always worried about an infection. I also have a CGMS under my skin too, so double the risk.

In reply to your rant at me which you have also done via pm

My comment was directed at your remarks
Being in the UK all of our supplies, pumps and prescriptions are free.
You made no mention what so ever as to why you changed your sites so often.
I pointed out it wasn't free Jo public is paying for them.
So as far as I am concerned it was a fair comment.

Sounds good. I should move to Canada or the UK! I can hardly cover everything else in life I need!

I also change every other day. I was getting bad absorption if I leave them in any longer. Sometimes I even change after 36 hours if I feel there is a problem (pain when bolusing, pain when touching the site, etc.).

One of the reasons I stopped using the pump was because of the knots I was developing on my sides and abdomen. It got to the point that it ALWAYS hurt when I would insert the set.

Giving the shots is MUCH less painful for me. While wearing the pump I would change sites every 3 or 4 days to try to stretch out the hundreds of dollars of buying new supplies.

Besides that, I could never get by A1C below a 9.8 for the 5 years I was on the pump.

I normally change sites every 3 days, but have gone 4 days if the site was comfortable and I still had insulin left.
