| | | Just curious... How long do you use a site?
My pump trainer had me count out 4 days from the time I put a site in to when I put a new one in. Example: Change site Monday morning....then change it on Thursday morning. This has worked great and I haven't had any problems with the skin, infections, pump bumps, etc. I use the Animas 1200 and simply love it!
How long do you folks go before changing a site? |

| | | Thanks, that is kinda what I figured. Trying to save a buck during these economic times. But it certainly isn't worth saving a buck here to have problems to deal with in the future because of my carelessness with my pump sites! I love pumping too much to risk losing the ability to pump! |

How long do you folks go before changing a site? | I change every 3 days, but it seems like we're doing the same thing only you're counting an extra day! Monday to Thursday, assuming you change at the same time of day, is three full days. I always change in the morning after I get out of the shower.
Monday morning - Tuesday morning = 1 day
Tuesday to Wednesday = 2 days
Wednesday to Thursday = 3 days, and time to change the site.
When I saw my CDE she told me to change every 2 days because I had been having a lot of high BG problems. I know the sites were not the issue, nor was it the insulin or a pump problem. It was just my wacky body. I refused and she got upset. Glad I didn't tell her that I nonly change the reservoir when it's empty!

| | | I have recently changed from 3 days to 4 days. I have no issues with the site and it does not get sore, nor do my numbers seem to go higher so far. I'm only doing this so that I can get a few extra infusion sets over time. I am fortunate enough that I don't have to pay for my supplies, but I do not get any extra...so no room for errors or pulled out sets. I figure by doing this, I will slowly be able to stock pile some extras.

| | | I go every 4 days. Monday morning to Friday morning and so on. Never had any problems and no scarring if I rotate correctly. I have gone 5 days but that is pushing it.

| | I personally change my site every other day since I have to refill the pump anyways.. I do get enough supplies to change out every day if I needed too.. No matter which way I look at it, it beats sticking a needle in me 5-6 times a day...

Each of those cannulas cost aprox £7.50.
They are not free either Jo public pays for them through taxes.
Wastage like that also denies another person the chance to pump.
Sorry rant over as you can prob guess I self fund so am fully aware of the costs.

| | | My Bg's will often run a bit higher on the third day, so I have been tending to change after 2 or 2.5 days. I realize that the taxpayer is footing the bill for the sets, but do I really want to wake up with 8's and 9's ( rather than 5's or 6's) in order to make the cost savings for Joe Public?
I change my reservoir when it runs out, which typically means 3.5 days, so the set and reservoir changes are usually out of synch.

| | | I will change every three days unless there is an issue with adhesion. When I order I get three months worth of supplies. They send me 50 infusion sets each time. Without any problems that is more like 5 months worth. Even though I do not have a co-pay, I like to have extras. You never know what insurance is going to do next.

I don't have many problems with my sets so I have built up an extra store. I'm paranoid about losing insurance or having my insurance decide they're not going to cover things.

| | | I switched from Comfort/Sils to Cleos about 6 months ago.
Before, I could leave them in 3 days, tops--with absorbtion problems the third day and sometimes infection problems too. I was very careful maintaining a sterile field when inserting, it was just my body.
Now with Cleos, inserted more shallowly, I can go 4 days with no problem, and even went to a fifth day once by accident. This is in cool weather, of course, In hot weather, all bets are off. I change every 3 days regardless to keep insulin fresh. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
