Going over doc's head...

So, when I decided I wanted a pump, I went VERY proactive. I made a bunch of calls and upped my endo appointment by a week. By the time I got there, I had:

- confirmed (several times) with Liberty that my insurance would cover pump and CGMS.
- Got Liberty to fax the required paperwork to my doc's office.
- contacted Medtronic to get info on said pump and CGMS mailed to my house to show doc.

By the time of my apt, I had the phone numbers (direct or with extension) of the person at Liberty AND the person at Medtronic handling my case. My doc, while thrilled I'd decided to pump, told me she'd handle the rest and to wait to hear from her. Shouldn't take more than a few days, maybe a week.

Tomorrow makes TWO WEEKS. I got a call from Liberty today to confirm shipment (will arrive Wednesday/Thursday) and choose my pump color (). I also got a call today from Medtronic to confirm that I had all the necessary info. I told Medtronic about Liberty's shipment. Turns out Medtronic deals VERY closely with Liberty (for obvious reasons, I'm sure!) so knew who to contact to get the serial # for my new pump so I'm completely covered on all ends. Medtronic is arranging my training session -- there are two nurses who cover my area.

Endo? No word. She's so slow on EVERRRRRYTHING! I don't mind being the go-between, in fact I prefer it since I like knowing EXACTLY what's going on concerning my health (I'm the person that asks the dentist what he's doing) but TWO WEEKS? C'mon, lady! I'm going to call her tomorrow (the only day she works at my doc's office) and tell her everything that's happening, politely. I love her when I have an appointment, she's very up-to-date, and VERY into patients having all the info/support they need. I could do worse. But her attention to things inbetween sometimes stinks. I even asked the Medtronic lady, and she said there'd been no call.

So *I* connected the company and my insurance. I'm going to arrange training on my own. In a few weeks, I'm going to be working 10-16 hour days. I want my pump already! Anyway, I should be getting a call from one of the nurses in the next few days to set up training.

Good for you, Amanda - sometimes we have to just do it all ourselves.

Congratulations on getting the pump and doing all of that work! My CDE did most of the work for mine. I just had to sign one form that MM faxed to me and fax it back to them. From the first mention of a pump to the time I actually had it, 9 days had passed. Would have been sooner but the first time MM called I wasn't able to talk and I waited until the next day to call back.

Amanda,

Congratulations on getting your pump and well done on being so proactive and in control of the process.

Still laughing about the collective comment, so cool.
