Question "Free floating" while sleeping?

Hi!

I'm considering a pump (been a Type 1 for 34 years) and am wonding about sleeping with one.

I'm looking at the Animas Ping in case that matters.

I've seen many people say they let their pumps "free float" at night. I toss and turn quite a bit and was wondering if this would work for me. This has been my biggest concern so far.

Thanks in advance for your help and answers.

I toss and turn like a naked tugboat on the high sea and free floating is mostly just fine. Occasionally I find myself wrapped up in the line, which is a strange experience. Sometimes I manage to sleep right on top of the pump for a little while which can be really quite uncomfortable. But mostly it works fine for me, and as far as "danger" of interfering with the pump's operation, such as pulling out the cannula, it's not happened in almost a year - these things are usually REALLY attached. I suppose there could be some extremely remote chance of hitting buttons and delivering a bolus or priming, but depending on the pump design, but with the minimed at least, I see the chance as really small, not enough to worry me.

I have been a type 1 for 34 years and have been on the pump for 2+ years now. This was my concern also and also being "hooked" up all the time. Neither one has been an issue at all. I hook it to the front of my shorts or bottoms whatever I'm wearing and it stays centered all night. I don't even know it is there. I am on a "short" cord. The 23" tubing so letting it free float would probably get pulled quite a bit. I did not like the long tubing 46". To much tubing ready to get snagged on something. Everyone is different but sleeping whatever you decide is not an issue.

On my 34th year, 3rd pumping. No problems at all. Don't worry, you'll likely love it too!

I'm in my 7th or 8th year of pumping. With my old Desitronic pump, there was a small, black, spandex like thing that came with it. There was a pocket in this for the pump.
This thing is pulled onto my calf and the pump is in there with the tube running under my drawers so it's not dangling around.

I've let my pump roam free a few times (accidentally) and had no problems, but I do like having it secured somewhere. Now that I'm using Minimed's CGMS, I do have to make sure my pump doesn't stray too far from the transmitter so I avoid setting the pump loose.

Free floating is fine, as is clipped on the front of boxer shorts or whatever.

You occasionally wake up with the imprint of a pump on your rear end, but otherwise sleep is a better experience with a pump; the even BG through the night tends to mean I wake up more refreshed than the old days.

I bought one of these and found it to be very comfortable... although I've just been clipping it to my boxers lately

I am using the Ping, just upgraded from the 2020. I prefer the longer tubing and just wear a pair of gym shorts with the pump in the front pocket. On occasion the pump will come out of the pocket and float around with no problems at all.

I think you will be happy with the Ping and the customer service has been very good for me.
