Spirit combo pump

Has anyone tried the accu-chek Spirit Combo Insulin pump.I think it looks really good with a remote control , by blootooth, and a food and bolus suggestion. I am seiously thinking of buying one. It also has a lot of skins to change the look of your pump with your mood.

Has it been released yet? It does look like they're trying to compete with the Animas Ping. I know that there aren't too many Accu-Chek users in the United States but the Combo pump may change that.

From what I've seen it doesn't seem to bring anything new to the table, and past history suggests troubling practices that go against consumer interests.

I say this as someone who was a very happy & satisfied user of Disetronic pumps.

I think it looks suspicious that right off the bat they send a back up pump in case "the unexpected" happens.

Plus you have the pump, the remote AND a PDA. So, you venture out of the house with the attached pump, remote, pump PDA, cell/blackberry? ACK.

But thanks for the info, had not heard of it!

I have seen a demo/trial version. Basically, the actual pump looks more or less identical to the old spirit (i.e. bigger and clunkier than the competition), but it now links wirelessly by bluetooth to a PDA/remote that can undertake all the pump functions. I believe that this also doubles as a BG meter.

The new pump deals with some of the issues of the old one (e.g. basal rates can now be adjusted in 0.05 U steps, there is an integrated bolus calculator), but I don't really see that it offers anything signficantly more advanced than the latest MM or Animas pumps, both of which offer wireless connectivity.

Looks more basic than a simple pager! LOL

I would go with a name brand for warranty and customer support. Unless you do not have insurance and there is a substantial price saving on the Spirit!
