      Silhouette and Sure-T "placement" differences

I use sils (the shorter ones) and have been generally happy. It seems there some folks that use sils but also use sure-ts for some places. Where do you use sure-ts that you don't use sils and vice-versa?

I just had two "eh" sil sites in a row, then followed with a great one, and I've wanted to ask the difference for a while.

      Thanks!

      Hi SCC
My husband has been using the Sils for almost 6 years, and has recently started having 'eh' sites on some portions of his tummy. After discussing this with other pumpers and our nurse, we bought some Sure T's and have been using these near the love handles (which he doesn't have) and towards the back (top of the bum area, around the kidneys). Sorry, a little hard to explain.
Basically, we are going to avoid the tummy area as much as possible for 3-4 months, as scar tissue seems to have formed.
The Sure T's work great --- have not had a site issue in almost a month and sugars are much better.

I use Sils on my abdomen, upper & lower up to the rib cage area and also around the sides. I use Sure-Ts in my ams, round my back and also my sides.

SCC, I don't have anything useful to contribute except that I wanted to say thanks for starting this thread. I have not been very adventurous with my sets...I've only used the silhouettes in the 2 1/2 yrs I've been pumping. I'm thinking of branching out as well, so I'm interested to see what responses you get.

Liz, I've never tried sets on my arms...where exactly do you place them and does the tubing get in the way of your day to day activities? I need to find new sites.

Whereever you can find some fat, even if it's a minor amount. You will find it is easier to insert the Sure T sets in difficult to reach places, it's much like jabbing a thumbtack, it's that simple. You are limited to comfort (other than ouchy spots) and the length of your tubing -v- pump placement on your clothing. Happy jabbing!

I use the Animas equivalent of the sure-Ts; the contact-detach, which are the 6mm metal cannulae sets. I love them and can put them pretty much anywhere without fear of any 'bent cannulae'.

I avoid my abdomen due to previous scarring from MDI and instead use 'love handles', upper butt, waist or anywhere that has a small amount of 'flesh'. Fat isn't even necessary.

The angled sets frankly scare me and I'll stick with my 6mm 90 degree sets for as long as they work for me.

I'm curious about arm sites as well, the "logistics".

I use Sure-Ts in my arms. When I insert I make sure the connection for the tubing it pointing up. If it's pointing down the tubing will want to fall down out of my shirt sleeves. Pointing up it heads toward my shoulder and then down over my chest. It never bothers me.

Is it hard to insert it there by yourself? I think my husband may pass out if he had to help me (major needle, blood, hospital phobia...ironically, he married me!!!). I need new sites. I'm starting to use a wider radius on my stomach and my backside/love handle area is taking a break for now. I get bad numbers when I place a set there, so I'm guessing there's scar tissue. Tried placing a set on my thigh a couple times, but they wouldn't stay in.
Thanks for all your pump advice! It's very helpful!!!

Oh my gosh. This shows how much I don't pay attention to details. I have only used the Quicksets...not the silhouettes. Just ordered my first box though! I wish the edit button didn't time out!

Ordered my sure-ts from MM yesterday! Can't wait to get more adventurous with the placement. I ordered the 32 inch tubing this round.

OK - just did my first sure-t....it was TOO EASY! And so very untraumatic. I am happy with performance and comfort of sils, but I admit the insertion needle sure looks big. I looked at this and it WAS like a thumbtack.

I went for above my waist toward the back - it's comfy for sure. Now to make sure my BG readings are good.

Thanks all, looks like I have a zillion more insertion sites now.

Good for you! I opened up the box last night (even opened up one of the sets), and then I chickened out and went for old faithful. Couldn't find (or actually was too lazy to keep looking) insertion and priming directions on minimed's website.
