IR1250 Not Primed - Confirm!

I received a message yesterday, early evening stating "No Delivery, Pump Not Primed ... Confirm".

I was baffled. I changed out in the morning and the pump was working fine. I checked the remaining units and it read 116. I looked at the Prime/Rewind screen and sure enough, the pump thought I had done a rewind and load and it was waiting on Prime and Fill Canula. I went throught the last 2 steps to get the pump working again and called Animas.

I received a phone call from Animas stating that if the luer cap is not on tight enough the pump thinks it was primed. So I checked the leur and it was finger tight but i was able to tighten it down a fraction more. I didn't smell insulin leaking out and the leur and cartridge did feel dry.

Anyway, thought I'd share this with you and will keep a watch on this.

Keep an eye on it and bug their tech support at the next hint of a problem. You don't want to have your pump fail at night while asleep! If more strange things occur and you are sure you aren't doing anything to cause the error, I'd INSIST on a replacement as I have with pump resets on my MM models over the years. You'd be amazed at some of the smoke the MM techs will blow to prevent sending out a replacement pump. I can be pretty persistent, so I eventually get a replacement if the problems persist. Good luck and hope you get no more errors.

Thomas has this happen occassionally, sometimes on day 2 or 3. The first couple times it happened he freaked, but his bgs were never affected. Now he just disconnects and primes a few drops and reconnects.

Same thing has happened to Chase on a couple of occasions with the IR1250. Disconnected and re-primed and everything was fine.

I thought it was possibly somethig we were doing wrong...I'll have to pay more attention to when/how it happens next time.

Yeah, I wasn't quite freaking out but I was puzzled that the warning had gone off. There are a lot of steps to go through to get to the 3rd step of Priming and I knew very well I hadn't pressed any bottons.

I would sugguest you call this incident in to Animas and let them track it. You never know...

That happened a few times to my son Marcus in the past. When I phoned Animas the tech told me if the pump sensed any kind of occlusion it would flip into this alarm. He said this would help with trouble shooting. First you would
prime your tubing to ensure the insulin hadn't caused a blockage (ie crystals) than he said to look at the cannula. The three times that it happened to my son his blood sugars were fine, so I doubt it was the canula. There were also drops of insulin coming out of the tubing when we did a manual prime so I don't think it was crystals either. It hasn't happened in months.... having said thaa there will probably be a problem tonight ha ha!
