| | Report on new site location I'm trying I have been looking for new non-abdomen sites for my infusion sets and can't use the backs of my upper arms for summer because I like sleeveless shirts. I read on the Joslin discussion boards about someone trying this site, so I stuck one on where they mentioned yesterday and it is working good - zero annoyance factor, no show with the sleeveless shirts, absorption good.
If you raise up your arm and look just behind the underarm area (and above the bra band line for us gals), there is a soft area right there on the upper back. I like it - it's been painless, no burning from boluses, comfortable for sleeping, and out of the way of my arm swing. |

You are undoubtedly the most intrepid insertion-site user I have ever "known"...

| | | I am also looking for new non-abdomen locations for summer. I can't use the upper arm area, because I lack fat there. I do have a little fat on my legs, but that's it. I wanted to start using my thighs, but not sure which set to use and not sure where to put it. Does anyone have any pointers?
I don't know how you could use your back, that seems weird to me. Maybe i'm just the weird one around here.

| | | Upper legs, the parts that get covered by boxers and shorts work for me--I prefer those locations, actually, over my abs, but I am trying to use my abs more so I can give my upper legs a break. Basically, if you can pinch it, you can insert it. LOL

| | | I've heard that if you can pinch one inch, then that place can be used for infusion and injection.

Some people call them "erogenous zones"--DO NOT try and insert there. But for me, if you could draw a line straight down my thigh, I can use everything from the middle out (towards my back) and about two and a half inches toward the center--from there it gets dangerous. I can also use from my belt line down to where I cannot pinch enough fat. Itr's a pretty big area.

| | | Thanks. Duck, just one more question and I swear I'll leave you alone. On Day 1, say you use your left thigh. Now, on Day 4, when you change your site, do you use the other thigh or do you move a couple inches from the site on day 1 and insert there?

It depends. Nowadays I try to use the same thigh/same side. I used to alternate sides, though, but I have found it gets harder and harder to remember if I used a site that was "close" to where I am getting ready to set--Do you understand what I'm saying? At least if I use the same side, I can see where the current one is (obviously) and I know what "direction" or pattern I am using, so. It's a matter of preference, if you can keep track of where you have used, I don't see any drawback to switching sides.

| | I'm also a "Leg Man". I stay on one thigh for as long as I can bfore switching to the other for the exact reason Duck mentioed: SO I don't forget where the last site was. I generally start low with a 43" set and work my way up, switching to a 23" set along the way. I haven't had the nerve to try the outer thigh yet. Seems to me like there's not enough meat there. My CDE said she uses the outer thigh all the time.
